Default Hunting season is upon us

I was at Joes today, and while getting a few things for the upcoming season I walked past the gun counter. I was looking at a couple rifles and overheard a guy and his son talking about how much ammo they need this year.

I about died laughing when they decided that 9 boxes of 7mm ammo should get them thru. I thought for sure they were kidding, but they were dead serious. Dad decided that 5 boxes would do and Son decided he only needed 4 this year.

I was worried about being around those guys. Then I realized you are in Washington. It made me feel a little better about hunting this year in Oregon.

Maybe they just love shooting? Sounds like they should start reloading.

DANG!! I always figure a box is good for 8 -10 Deer!!!

I hand loaded 6 boxes of hunting loads for my .300 H&H 15+ years ago and I'm good for at LEAST a couple more years.......DANG that's a lot of shootin'. Now the 110 gr. "plinkers" THAT's another story

Anyone who is out in the woods (NOT in their rig) after 10am on opening day can hear why they needed so much ammo. It can sound like a WAR!!

This makes me REALLY look forward to muzzleloader season

Geeze it doesn't take THAT many to sight in. A good look down the bore & a few tweaks of the coin and I'm usually on the paper w/ the 1st shot. 2-3rds @ 100 and then back to 300 for the final zero. At most a box for sight in and typically only half that!

I'm like Dennis...been working on the same 5 boxes of handloads for several years now. But then I don't waste them on every critter I see either. Some people seem compelled to fire away at everything from grouse to timber tigers.

I still have 5rds left for the trusty .280rem. I've never fired that many in one season yet so I figure I'm good for deer season. Besides, it's not like I don't have other rifles waiting in the wing too.

9 boxes.....sheeze.

I sighted in my 7mm last weekend took 6 shells, plan on taking 2 boxes for the week long elk hunt, and that is just incase I happen to do something stupid like drop my pack in a river or something. They must have better shoulders than me, cause after six shots I was ready to be done.
