Handgun hunting magazine capasity???

So my Cousin askes me this yesterday and I forgot to research it so I'm asking you folks.
I'm paraphrasing:
In the hunting regs it says .22 cal or larger rifle or handgun may be used on deer. Semi-auto rifles are limited to a magazine capicity of 5 or less.

What about semi-auto handguns???? are they limited to a magazine capacity??? If not why not use a Bushmaster semi-auto carbon pistol in .223 with a 30 round magazine.....

NOT THAT I WOULD USE THAT COMBO BUT.......... WHAT IF?!?!?!?!

Beats me I have only ever shot them with a revolver and my revolver only has a 5 round cylinder (.454 Casull).

But wouldn't any smaller revolver like a ruger .44 mag violate the 5 round capacity rule since most of the smaller revolvers in cals like .44, .357 etc. have six round cylinders?

Good question! I belive that OSP would regulate (or relegate?) you to 5 rounds in any semi-auto hunting firearm. Frankly, you only need one if you're paying attention. I've only shot twice two times. The first(in the left shoulder, and out the liver side) was a caribou that would have run down the mountain further to lessen my pack out, if I had not shot him through both shoulders(because he didn't appear to be hit, he put it in fifth gear) that anchored him, and the other was a nice blacktail that I shot in the antler before dropping him in his tracks with a spine shot. Hey, I shot twice, and hit him both times

Both of them...Hmmm? OK, I'm bragging, but I tend to hit what I aim at. I missed one completely on a Silvies hunt several years ago, so there ya go....he was running pretty fast! Stupid shot!

Buck fever! What can I say? Well crap, this turned into a hunting story, over a magazine capacity question. I'm sorry...NOT! :tongue:

a revolver could hold unlimited shells, an auto pistol needs a clip block to limit capacity to five in the magazine. plus you need your tag validated for handgun hunting. unless they have dropped that requirment

I'm pretty sure that it ONLY specifies semi-auto RIFLES as needing a 5 shot... & I don't believe that the validation for handgun is required anymore.

IS there ANY semi-auto handgun that has a 5 shot capacity OR seen a 5 shot magazine for a Glock?

I don't believe that a revolver is limited either but a double action has the same capibilities as a semi-auto in that they fire 6 (big bore) as fast as you can pull the trigger.

OK, I give up I just called the OSP wildlife div. Trooper at first said that semi's of all kinds were restricted to 5......Then he looked it up. His final conclusion is THERE IS NO MAGAZINE SIZE RESTRICTION TO HANDGUNS!?!?!?

So like I origionally said a Bushmaster Carbon pistol in .223 with a 7 1/2 " barrel and a 30 rd magazine IS legal for deer.

WHOA.....when did firepower become an acceptable exchange for marksmanship in hunting?????
