Default Anyone read The Purpose Driven Life ?

Our entire church (4K) is starting a 40 day journey in the book by Rick Warren "The Purpose Driven Life". I'm leading a group and am trying real hard not to get ahead but man this is good stuff

Anyone else read this book? What are your comments?

Thanks

I have purchased the book, but have not cracked it yet. There are many churches that are about to start the 40 Days of Purpose. We get started in about ten days. Thanks for the info.. I am looking forward to starting it.

It's a great book for a study, espically for new Believers although everyone can get challenged, encouraged, blessed. As with any study, getting it from the head to the heart and to the fingertips is the real key. You will enjoy and go back to it in years to come.

This book is awesome! I would highly recommend this book for anyone that struggles with their walk or even for those who are mature. It reminds of having my hand in front of my face and not seeing it and now it's there!

I thought I would share what the 5 purposes of our lives are according to the book and prayer that is linked with these areas.

Worship Pray that we will live a lifestyle of worship and surrender to the glory of God

Fellowship Pray that people will accept Christ, be baptized, join our church family and participate in a small group of Bible study

Discipleship Pray that we will commit to the habits of spiritual growth, including memorizing a weekly Bible verse and having daily devotions

Ministry Pray that we will find a place to serve in ministry in our church, either by using our giftnedness or by finding a need and meeting it

Evangelism Pray that we will share our faith and develop a heart for world missions

These 5 areas are what is covered in the book. I have a card next to my computer of these to remind me everday "why on earth am I here".

Have a blessed day!

I am currently readuing The Purpose Driven Life & I am learning alot!
I read Rick Warren's book, The Purpose Driven Church a few years ago and I learned that myself & most churches are just "doing" church. Rick teaches us what the Bible says we should be doing to grow more like Christ!
I attended Rick's church, Saddleback two years ago for Christmas and I got to meet Rick Warren. What a down to earth guy. 85% of his attenders who call Saddleback home were unchurched before they attended. Most churches grow at the expense of other churches.

Well, I am about half way through the book and have found it to be a bit dry, repetitive, and well.......boring. Having a hard time reading it but I am staying with it. So far it has not spoken to me "much" and I say that with a bit of a grin. I am told it gets a little more in depth after about half way through so hopefully this is true.

don't mean to put a damper on this thread at all. Just my personal struggle in reading stuff I already know I suppose is causing me to loose interest in it. Maybe it is also because I not exactly a Rick Warren fan or his approach to the church today. I guess I am a fuddy duddy 40 year old that enjoys a little more conservativisms of worship and the traditions of the 70's, 80's, and early 90's.

Guess I am a desenter when it comes to this book "so far". I'll let ya know if I change my mind.

I'd have to recommend the book, but I am a relative newbie to anything more than church a couple times a year.

Our church went through the Purpose Driven Life last year and during the 8 week program blitz, I had a similar reaction to Catch and Eat. It was pretty basic theology, nothing real earth shaking, and I kept it comfortably on the surface. For the past three months,

I've been meeting with a group of guys for breakfast on Monday's and we've been spending about a week or so per "day" in the book. We don't let each other off of the hook. What appears to be fluffy theology on the surface, hits me between the eyes when I measure myself in each area and give an accounting to the group. I've realized my life has been more about "me" and a lot less about what God has been asking of me. I'm not quite to the point of total submission (which Warren calls a dirty word in our culture), but I'm getting close.

Thanks to all those who have been active on this board, you have been a blessing to me. I'll commit to share more in the future.

John
