Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
Pretty sad, an early morning fire here in Tillamook has completely gutted Kimmels Sporting Goods and the Gift Store next door. I haven't seen the damage myself, but heard there wasn't much left.
My heart goes out to Iris and the employees who are now without a business and jobs.

:depressed: Major bummer. I used to stop in there quite a bit during the fall run.
I wonder if they're going to rebuild?

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
That is horrible news! No more Kimmels sporting goods means no more sporting goods in Tillamook.
:depressed: :depressed: :depressed:
The other two places are not even viable options for me.
I certainly hope they rebuild or relocate. An address on 101 would put the other place out of business.
Best of luck to the Kimmels gang.

Its too bad this happened. But to tell you the truth it doesn't look that bad to me. I bet they are up and running in no time. I wonder what caused the fire?

Thats horrible. Ive never gone in there, but sure feel sorry for the owners and employees. I hope they can rebuild and the insurance companies work with them and not make it a slow process.

Darn I hate to hear that. The employees there are all great. I worked there temporarily about 4 years ago and really enjoyed it. Iris is about as kind a person as there is. A lot of those guns were irreplaceable. Hope they didn't lose too much.

Thats a real bummer as a person that has been thru a business fire can really hope they had good insurance, I didn't, if I had you would have been getting this e-mail from Mexico or somewhere warm. Hope all goes well....Ray

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
That is terrible news. Kimmels is a great local sporting goods outlet serving a world class fishery. I will use the "present tense" because I don't want to believe they won't be right back.
I trust someone will advise us how the IFish community can help, besides just giving them lots of our money for tackle and bait when they are open again.

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
From the pictures I saw on the news it didnt apear that there was a huge amount of severe structural damage, the roof hadn't collapsed or an exterior walls. Did apear to have a lot of heavy smoke damage and fire damage inside but that is easier to fix than if the buliding had collapsed. Hopefully they had good insurance and get back up and running prety soon.

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
Tragic occurance for sure. I have spent a few bucks there over the years. I really feel for the owner and employees too.
Firedog, I am sure you know that the structural damage may not look to severe, but the smoke and water damages really is. The heat inside would build up to the point that most contents would be damaged before the water hits them. The water destroys them the rest of the way. Yes, I have been in many burned homes and businesses over the last 35 years. My most rewarding jobs have been helping homeowners and businesses to rebuild and open their doors again. Sometimes, it turns out for the better, no it is never better, but with patience and desire they can overcome an extremely difficult situation. Hope it doesn't keep them from re opening.
I hope they carried a good fire insurance policy as most of them will pay for business interruption ( Loss income and operating expenses )as well contents and construction.

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
Really sorry to learn of this. We've been up and down their tackle aisles a bunch over the years. Sure hope they're able to get the place put together and back in business; either at that location or out on Hwy101. They'll have our support when the doors re-open.

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
This is very sad. For many years when in the Tillamook area, either fishing or visiting friends, I always stopped and at least picked up tackle. They were great to deal with and the staff always knew what was needed and they always carried the tackle that you wanted. I got some good buys on rain gear and boots too.
I hope that they rebuild or find a new building on 101, so we can stop and pick up the doo dad we need.

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
It will be sad if they dont go back to doing what they did. I can remember finding many tresures in their store. Their inventory will be a nightmare to figure out due to the diversity of goods they carry. I wish them well as I know they have provided a great service to the community for many years.

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
Your right it dosn't look bad from the out side. Folks belive me it is a total loss! what do you say at a time like this. The local paper called me Monday and asked for my personal thought and feelings. I did not know what to say. I am not very often at a loss for words, but sure was this time. The store and folks will be missed in a big way. I have never gone in and asked for a donation for a cause with out walking out with more than I planned on. Iris has always supplied the bait and tackle for whiskey Creek Hatchery fishing day for dids with handicaps. In l988 when we held the STEP Conference in Tillamook, they donated over $3.000.00 worth of door prizes. You can bet that at this years conference we will have a special place for there name. I will try to keep you posted on any news, although I will be at the sport show until Sunday. Jerry

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
I would go there even when I didn't need anything. Just cause I really liked the place and folks, and of course I would still drop a "few" bucks. My prayers to the owners and employees. We should line up there on opening day and show our support by being the first customers in the door.

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
I heard today that the roof on the gift shop side did collapse. The propane cannisters and ammo that was exploding in the sporting goods side kept the firefighters at bay.
The gun collection is gone :depressed:
First they lost Rocky on Christmas eve now this :depressed: That is a lot of hardship for a family in a short time frame.
It is all just to sad. I wish them the best.

Re: Kimmel's Sporting Goods and Gifts BURNED!
Almost always stopped there on the way to Netarts to go clamming or crabbing. Like hawgcatcher, have gotten some good deals on boots and raingear over the years. So sorry to hear of their loss. Will be glad to do business with them again, hopefully in the near future.
