Sure it is not running rich and putting it out in the exhaust?

No I'm not sure but you would think stevens marine would of thought of that..but I'll ask them, when I take it back to them.. I just thought that maybe someone else may have had the same problem and what it took to fix it

Thanks for the input.. I'll check that out!!!

Sounds like a stuck float in the carb. I have a 2000 9.9 and the carb has done that to me twice.

I would start the engine and let it run, and then noticed a lot of gas sheen on the water. The first time it happened I pulled the boat out of the water, disassembled the carb, put it back together, and it worked fine again. The second time it happened we were getting ready to go fishing and I was desperate to try to fix it without wasting a day of fishing. We ran some hollow tubing up into the little air intake box of the carb and a friend blew into the tubing as hard as he could while I gave a couple yanks on the motor without starting it. Amazingly this cleared the problem and we were on our way. Give it a shot.

I heard that Merc's are known to have these little glitches with the carb.

Mine was running fine as well, but there was a lot of gas pouring out of it. I initially couldn't tell what was going on and thought that I must have a leak in a short fuel line that fed the carb.

I told a guide friend what was going on, and he had been through the same problem. He helped me fix it the first time.
