Default elk camps whats your set up

i know this has been done before but ifigured i would do it again with archery season going and rifle right around the corner. i like to see what people come up with as far as elk camps. there are some interesting ideas out there. heres a pick of our set up. it contains 2 24x15 canvas wall tents. with 15 x16 2x4 framed in shacks all covered by clear platic. be hind these there is a 12x12 shower house and 4x12 canvas out house. both living quarters has 2 wood stoves in them. the framed in shack is the lounging area and the tent is sleeping quarters. its truly home away from home.

22 ft prowler bunk house loaded with provitions. I pull that thing around the woods like a duce and a half pulling a mo gas trailer. The leaf springs are turned and unless I encounter tree branches it pretty much goes where my 4x4 will. If my wife only knew what I do with the family trailer come hunting season she would kill me.

I did however have my share of nights in a gp medium under less than desirabe circumstances. That canvas smell of army tent brings back some dank memories.

Most often, a blue tarp. Sometimes two. One tied up, one to lay on.

Next week a white canvas wall tent with a wood stove. From the old days. Downright luxurious.

I'd go with a tent, bag, and pack, but my bro happens to own a real nice tent trailer. I'm a minimalist. He's a maximusaurous.

16x20 wall tent with dining fly, or two 12x14 tents, depending on the time of year and how mobile we need to be. That's quite the setup you have there! How much time does that take to setup?

its a day to setup and a day to tear down so its bad the tents have frames so we can have both tents set up in the matter of 30 minutes. the shacks are all bolt together so its pretty easy also what takes the most time is getting everything set level and the plastic on.

A 30' class A motorhome, tv/vcr, heat, ac, microwave, stove, sofa, queen bed, full shower and bathroom and a Jeep towed behind it. This year the traeger goes with me.

my hunting pard's all have nice trailers and one has dish network. It gives comfort a whole new meaning.
Stop by, we might have some grey poupon.

During rifle seasons we use a trailer. Archery is a different story. We use the tent, sometimes it's just a tarp. We need to be very mobile during archery season. Also cheaper than hauling a trailer.

Whatever 5 pack mules and 3 riding mules can carry.
Depending on where we find elk, it maybe a manny tarp and saddle for a pillow.

I've thought about an ox cart.I used to have a 3 year holstien steer, damn thing would never put on any wieght, but he sure had some long legs.I finnaly got tired of feeding him,his name was Meat Loaf and that was about all he was good for.Shoulda put him to work.I do have a powder horn I made from one of his still, extremly functional, and used many times. It has an apple wood plug and deer antler stops.
Whoops got side tract, what was I typing about...oh yeah OX CARTS,well if ya don't get an elk and your hungry ,...I bet a pair of dairy steers could drag some weight.

My wife has a line back dunn quarterhorse. Blind in the right eye from slamming her head after falling off the trail in the Minam with a full pack of elk.
I swear that horse sees me load up the truck in the fall for elk hunting and actually cries tears as I leave; it's sad to leave her behind that way. She probably could hunt and spot elk with the best hunters here; watch her ears!!!
She's 21.
I use a 12X14X4 and hope to 'make' it a 5' next year w/ a cabellas 5' Al frame/8' porch.

I know most of these camps are during the November firearm seasons, but there is an upcoming cascade rifle season. For years my Bow hunting partners and I have evolved a camp which is high on success and low on comfort.

To be successful we live like an elk. Think minimalist, buy the best down sleeping bag, best and lightest one person tent........yada, yada, yada you can find. After packing survival gear and necessities our finished packs weigh no more than 22 pounds, food, water (quart) included for two nights and three days. Sometimes more water is needed depending on availability. This camp allows us to hunt in any wilderness and cover ground till we find elk. No wasting time or energy going to and from camp, like elk we carry our home with us at all times. Highly effective but probably not conducive to foul weather November hunting.

Retrieving your kill is another story, I have Llamas for retrieving kills farther than a couple miles.

Nothing beats the feeling of taking a trophy animal mano-o-mano in the solitudes of a remote wilderness with not another human track for miles.......Mike

Some years 16X32 canvas army pack tent. We bought it for 500 from a surplus guy that gets them from FT Lewis. He sowed the one hole in it and it is perfect. You can set it up by yourself in 20 minutes.
This year 22 foot prowler bunk house because i have 3 days to hunt the early season for deer. 2 weeks. woohoo.

silver one we hunt a wildernessalso i can be at the edge of the wilderness in 5 minutes. with it being november with the elk lower in elavation because of the time of year. i can get into elk really easy and be out of the woods before dark. but i understand what you are saying. it would be really affective as a archery hunter to hunt like you do. but id rather get up extra early to get to a spot and return back to camp after dark an know i have a warm dry comfortable place to lay my head for a good nights rest.

ehunter no we dont and here is the reason why. we lay a layer of plastic over the frame then we nail 2 x2s on top of that and lay another layer of plastic over the top creating a air space that makes it so we dont get condensation.

Minimalist. If I drive the Burb I skip the tent and sleep in the back. I can load up my cooler, camp chair and kitchen and be down the road in 10 minutes.

First time I've had the wall tent out in a while.

The wood stove was nice. Low 20's in the mornings

Well if the weather is decent it looks something like this.

If the weather is not, it looks pretty similar to everybody elses. Two 500$ trailers facing eachother with lots of duct tape visqueen and a blue tarp over the top. And a homemade wood stove to dry out our cloths.

I hike into camp naked early the night before opening day. I make clothing out of vegetation and bark, build a fire by rubbing sticks together, smelt down some metal and shape it into a knife before sunrise. Then I live off of grubs and berries until I find the elk herd and kill the herd bull with my two fists of fury. I then quarter the elk and pack out the meat on a pack frame that I fashion out of the elk's antlers. I'm usually back home by noon or 12:30 the same day depending on the sharpness of my smelted knife.

Oh, and I hunt alone because of the naked thing.

That's not ethical! You should kill the animal with one fist of fury and not need two!

Not only are "two fists" not ethical, they're not mentioned in the hunting regs as legal. I think you're gonna attract attention from the authorities
