Ok lets have some fun here and rest awhile from the debatable stuff. Lets say your out fishing and your having no luck at all, your off by your self nobody for miles from you your approx 1/2 mile from your car its getting dark so your leaving you, havent seen anything or anybody with a heartbeat all day. And as your hiking out your foot kicks something and it looks odd. So you kick it again and it had a shinny top to it. you noticed it has been covered up with some broken off fir branches and leaves. but as you notice again its right next to a foot trail. Then you reach down, because your couriosity has the best of you, and grab ahold of what looks like a silver handle. As you pull it away from the leaves and what not, you notice then that it is a big sliver metal suitcase. You ask your self "what is this thing doing way out here 100 miles from noware?" It them dawns on you "Drugs". you want to leave it alone but you take out your leathermen and after awhile you take the handels off enstead of seening drugs, you are looking at 20 rows of 100 dollar bills you reach down and pick one out and you can barely get your hand around one row. you notice that the suitcase has been there for awhile and you now know it is 100 percent drug money!..."WHAT WILL YOU DO". Cammon Christian brothers will you leave it there? knowing that it will be used to get more drugs?. Turn it in to the cops? knowing you might not see any of it again and if in so many days they give it all back, someone from inside might tip someone off to who and where you are. Will you take it home and tell your wife or friends?. Put it slowly in the Bank, leaving a paper trail?. You now know its dirty money. WHAT WILL YOU DO?

I would put it in the washing machine , add a little soap, and wa-la,,, clean money. TEE HEE ,, TEE HEE.

First I'd get a lawyer. I'd offer him a percentage on contingency if nobody claimed it. Then I'd turn it in to the police with my lawyer, to ensure that my rights are protected, and that I get good advice on what to do. If it's drug money, nobody's going to claim it. If nobody claims it, then I'd tithe from it, give my boss 30 days notice to find another employee, and start my own business.

Oh, yeah... I'd move with no forwarding address so if the drug dealers wanted it back, they'd have a hard time finding me. I think the really hard question would be "Do I tell my wife?????" I could just imagine the boxes and boxes of junk she'd bring home from her shopping spree, and not one bit of fishing equipment among it.

HAHA!!!, Well, That's a good question, EXCELLENT QUESTIOn. The obvious answer would be to give it back to the cops and trust that this isn't like the movies where all cops are dirty.

But then again, that's alot of money...

This is where you'd have to set aside your GREED and dothe right thing. even though I'd be so tempted to keep some of it beofre turning it in, I don't think that my wife would allow me to keep any. hehe.

So turn it in, and hope that no body claims it.

Now remember folks...if you turn it in to the cops and nobody claims it and its yours...guess what...inside pays offs into telling the bad boys where you live. Im sure they would want their money back.

Not a moments hesitation.... Turn it in. It will never be claimed and you will get at least some of it. If not? You stopped a small part of a bad thing.

The "They'll be back for it?" Don't believe it for a second. They know the paper trail will be long and complete. They couldn't do a thing about it. Take all that money and spread it around to every charity you like and tell it to the media. Good comes from the money and the bad guys can't touch it.. :grin:

Turn it in. Or leave it there and tell the cops where it is (for safety). I suppose you could also justify giving it all to charities, especially if it was a charity to help victims of drug crimes or something like that...I couldn't keep money made from drug dealings.....

I'd like to say that I would turn it in, and cross my fingers that nobody turned it in. happybrew has a good angle on this I think with a lawyer. But truth be told, staring down at that much money, I would probably keep it and tell nobody about it. It wouldn't be stealing, or would it? I don't really see a problem with it being dirty money or not, 'cause the damage had already been done. Money is money, it doesn't matter one bit if a dollar has previously been used to buy drugs by someone else, it's still a dollar.

At least by my keeping it I could be SURE that it would be put to something positive.

I would keep it. Too much legalities with turning it in. Nobody would ever find out, as long as you kept it to yourself.

To many unknowns(ie on private or state,fed land). In either case put it back, get the feds,.... but before revealing the location get a clear understanding of the proceedure(by the government) regarding money in a case like this.
If I recall the money is yours if no one claims it after a certain number of years.What if it is say ten years, or even twenty?
Don't plan on spending it but put it in your will. If you do live to spend it, imagine that day say ten years later when you get the call!
