Default Paint sprayer for trim and doors?

I'm trying to figure out what kind of sprayer to use for painting doors and trim at my new house. The airless sprayer I can use right now is too high powered I think, and it puts out too wide of a spray. The compressor powered air/paint sprayer splatters too much. The oil-based primer I'm trying to apply looks like orange peel texturing. Any ideas on what I should use and where I might be able to rent one? Thanks, TOC.

too high powered airless?? your airless should be fine try a different size tip, a graco 412 fine finish tip would do it. ask your paint supplier they will know about this tip. also....on your spray gun, does it have a reversible or RAC tip on it? or or you using a flat contractors tip? once you get the right tip, experiment on something before you go after those doors and trim. try thinning your material a little as well. one reason why real painters cost a $$ to hire....hard to put a price on experience.

TOC
Check into a HVLP or high volume low pressure spray unit. That's what most of the pros I know use for trim. Check with Chip at Cascade paint . He is a fisherman and very willing to help. The hvlp is much less messy and better for oil based products. Good luck.
