Magic Rod! (pics)
We had the pleasure of taking an out of state ifisher out on the MC portion of the Willamette yesterday. I provided him a rod/reel combo that my wife (things never change)had won in a Salmon Derby years ago. Now, I know things like this can happen (shut up KF85). But this magic rod (pictured) happened to not go overboard once, but twice to the bottom in 40 feet of water and is still here today to tell the story! After the second time a loop was affixed to the rod and went around his wrist and there was no further incidents (because of the loop?!) I will not embarrass him here, but I will tell you his initials are JamesfromIdaho.
Oh, and Tilla and Dances with Labs scored a pair during the day.

Re: Magic Rod! (pics)
One ifisher was going by slowly as we were casting and dragging furiously with 1 lb lead, I am sure we made an impression!
And KHH, I know where you are too!

Re: Magic Rod! (pics)
Very nice Glen! I take back all those comments about you not being able to catch fish without the wife. Impressive showing.
Wait a second, those are sturgeon, not springers. Don't forget the wife during springer season bro. That wonderful lady can slay salmon. Now she has already agreed to fish with me sometime so I think I might just bring her aboard when a springer challenge arises. Mrs. Tilla the Springer Slayer.

Re: Magic Rod! (pics)
We had three heating heads going under the top. The fish gave us little time to get warm and tend to the rods though.

Re: Magic Rod! (pics)
It was my pleasure having you aboard and you are welcome anytime. You shoulda seen me smoothly segue from "James threw your rod overboard twice" to "here is a bottle of Merlot he brought for you" in front of Mrs Tilla. It was quite a wordsmithing masterpiece!

Re: Magic Rod! (pics)
Yes, I'm the butterfingers hiding behind that ballon! First a huge THANKS to Tilla and Co. for getting me out, had a blast. As for the rod, well I tried to blame it on my chessie chewed fingers, but I don't think anybody was buying it. Great day, no longer a "sturgeon virgin", and that is a lucky rod. Next time I'll bring my own (or two  ).
Now what Tilla doesn't mention is his special bait. Gives a whole new meaning to "stinky pinky". I guess that it is a good day when your sister in law (who had been skiing all day) sends you to the shower first.
The roads home yesterday were bad, snow from Hood River to Raft River Idaho. After a small incident on the black ice, my boat restoration has gone from basically "scrape and paint" to "scrape, repair broken ribs, fiberglass and paint". Oh well, might have it done in time for late steelhead here.
What I learned was if you are going to cast a LOT more weight than you are used to, use my special sling, it save the above rod a couple of more times!
Thanks again TILLA and the Sneakin' Out boat!
