The Stonewall Bank Bouy 20 miles off newport. Is reporting

Re: Warm Water Off Newport
Well, the free SST shot doesn't look so good. There doesn't seem to be any warm water for a long, long way. I'll wait for the next shot to see if this is just an anomaly or a real trend.

Re: Warm Water Off Newport
Jim, we have been catching Tuna in much cooler water... like 54.5... Green water hogs as well... but it is a casting or live bait show. Maybe you could setup a horse trough as a live bait tank?

Re: Warm Water Off Newport
Jim, the free shot is misleading. What looks like cool water is probably from cloud cover. The clue is the sharp line between Newport & Depoe, showing (what looks like) warmer water on the inside.
The 9/19 2:04 pm shot shows a massive warm water area off Depoe. About 63 deg at 125/45.
Before making any assumptions based on one, free terrafin shot, Yoda says: get another data point...such as the Coastwatch shot:
Recent Coastwatch

I wuz hopin' you'd chime in, Mark. That's why I said "I'll wait for the next shot to see if this is just an anomaly or a real trend."
Looking at Wetsand, Saturday looks doable. I'm betting a flotilla could be assembled by then.

Re: Warm Water Off Newport
BTW, Packy's observation is spot-on
[image] [/image]
Last trip out with Glen...was the same day they got the buoy back on line. We passed about a mile south of it, and the boat temp guage matched the buoy temp.
My guess (I mean.....Yoda's guess), is that the area between Depoe and Tillamook would be a good bet for tuna (if a guy could get out).
Astoria Canyon has been THE hotspot. That edge (south color & temp edge) started moving south a week ago.

Re: Warm Water Off Newport
Jim why don't you take some of that whoppin' pension money and get a terrafin subscription? Relying on those free images is about as bad as.....relying on some internet fool  to tell you what he thinks

Re: Warm Water Off Newport
i seen the chart im more concerned with the cold water off shore the bouy is the correct temp at 20 miles its more accurate than SST graph at least where the bouy is anyway.

Re: Warm Water Off Newport
At & above about 44 40, there is warm water out to at least 100 miles.

Re: Warm Water Off Newport
Jim I'd be carefull about believing this guy just look and see how many posts he has- way to many
No really the terrafin is way worth it with all other factors involved-fuel -time etc. Mark
