Default hunter sight in days

I worked the hunter sight in today at Douglas Ridge, I sorta feel like I have been herding cats all day

Sorta glad I wasnt there yesterday when some guy got out of his truck with a shotgun in the case, dropped the case and blew a hole in the case right in the parking lot

It went pretty well today with the exception of the guy who decided he would head down range and check his target before the range went cold all was fine

I spent the day coaching shooters, and I dont think of myself as a coach, but Lombardi had nothing over me today I worked two stations and was pretty busy all day. I had a lot of fun and saw a lot of different people and guns.

You pay out front for each gun, bring gun to station #2 and they make sure your ammo fits your gun then you get assigned to a coach who has a couple shooting stations. If all goes well you just double check the gun and ammo to make sure it matches up then spot for them so they can see where they hit, and help them adjust the scope the right direction.

I had 12 year old boys, who did great, I had a 19 year old girl who could shoot circles around most I had a 70 year old guy who couldnt shoot sitting, finally got clearance from a RSO to let him stand and after a few shots he looks at me and tells me he suffers from A. G. E. disease and has his son sight in his gun :depressed: I had hispanics who spoke no english   that was a challenge, I had one asian guy show up and his first three shots are top left of target, bottom right of target and top right of target, I mean barely hitting the paper and he ask me which way to adjust the scope I am thinking this guy will run out of ammo before we get this figured out After we get him dialed in and shooting a better pattern, he brings in gun #2 and shoots a 3 shot sub 1 inch group

With the exception of turning one scope up when I meant to turn it down it went well on my end. I felt bad when the shooter went from 5 inches high to 8 high when I tried to adjust it down 3 inches.

After spending the day with the "average" hunter I am commited to staying home opening weekend

It was fun though

I know where you're coming from BOE...worked my first one last year. Somehow a guy got in with a mag full of live ammo and swept the line with his muzzle when he went to open the floorplate.

I'll be there in mid-October for the last run. Hopefully won't be too busy then.

Any of you DR guys shoot the long range stuff on Thurs. I've been wanting to check it out for a while. I'd even be interestd in just tagging aalong and pulling targets for someone.

BOE, been there and done that a few times - at Tri County we only have to work one station cause its that packed - seems the big muzzle breaks are always next to me and I spend most of the day catching my spotting scope before it falls off the bench.

I love the borrowed a gun from a friend and grandpa gave me a box a shells - all different bullet weights and in various states of external corrosion, white crust on the lead tips, buldging primers, tar on the case. Or furry barrels - I always take my collection of bore snakes - I'm certain I was the only person to clean that rifle in 20 years.

Or this is always great - guy shoots a basket ball size group and asks how he did. Well you did OK there Tex. Then they always ask what kind of groups I shoot - I just tell them they did better than I did

Last time I did that only had one guy who could shoot worth a darn and a dad insisting that his daughter hold a rifle a certain way. I refused to let her shoot that way, got the range officer, he tried to explain the problem to the dad who would have none of it. Refunded their money and sent them home.

I don't hunt the coast range anymore - I think you know why.
