Default Cool new zoo exhibit

The Oregon Zoo has a new exhibit of Pacific Northwest wildlife, including a very nicely integrated section highlighting the lifecycle of salmon. Winding it's way through the exhibit is a stream, which includes descriptions of many of the challenges salmon face. Throughout the exhibit are some nice bits of whimsy, like the sculptures of spawning salmon swimming up the stream.

... and a really beautiful mosaic of the salmon lifecycle embedded in the walkway. Here's a picture of a painting of the entire mosaic (I couldn't get high enough above the mosaic to get a full picture of it).

and some details of the mosaic.

Definitely a nice addition to the zoo.

Sure enough is Pete! The life cycle of the Salmon is one of those miracles of nature that we sometimes kind of take for granted. It's really something to see what struggles and obstacles smolts have endure just to return to their native streams to renew the species. Great exhibition to take the grandchildren or kids to see.
