Default Who knows Lakamas Lake???

We have recently moved to NE Vancouver, juat a few minutes away from the lake. I have been told, but have yet to confirm, that the lake is open to power boats and water skiing, has brown trout, bass, and that last year a suprise chum salmon run showed up in the rive above the lake. Any information about this lake would be most appreciated!

I've heard the same, except for the run of Chum. I used to water ski there, but have never fished. I've seen plenty of people fishing. I will be interested to hear others posts on this.

Impossible for those chum to make it above the lake. But they do make it to lacamas creek below the lake. I know the lake very well i used to ride my bike there as a kid. In the summer don't think about fishing it during the day. the water skiers and jet ski's own the lake. Early morn is the best. Trout, crappie, blugill, catfish. All are there. If you want more info PM me.

All you've been told is correct. Except the chum were in the lower section of Lacamas Creek (below the lake). Fishing for the browns can be good from April-May. In the summer the lake is taken over by personal watercraft and ski boats. During this time you can still find good fishing for bass. trout and panfish in Round Lake. Lacamas Lake kinda of turns into Round Lake on the other side of SR 500. I don't think power boats are allowed in the Round Lake section, so you can get away from the hordes of jet skies.

I too am about 5 minutes from the lake and we love it. We go up and bank fish for planter rainbows and browns, and in the summer take the boat up for swimming and fishing. Yes, the skiers etc. can get a little crazy, but I just anchor up and drop a worm over the side while catching a tan. Last year in late July and early August, we were still catching browns this way.

In addtion to bass and trout the lake also has some dandy catfish, perch and blue gill.

Round Lake is essentially not accessable from the main part of Lacamas Lake as you have to go under the SR 500 bridge, which is tough to do in larger boats. A kayak or canoe could probably pull it off. Gas powered motors are not allowed on Round Lake, but you can use electrics. During the spring, trolling for trout out of float tubes or pontoon boats with a fly rod is a blast! Bank access can be somewhat limited, but it is fun and the kids love it.

Thanks guys! This is good info! Guess it's time to break out my old slolem ski. OK so fishing efforts after the spring should be shifted to Round Lake with float tubes. Round like is part of Lacamas lake or a separate body of water?

So what about now? I would think rainbows, at least, would be on the bite with the cool water. I'm runing a well equiped deep V 18ft I/O with a 9.8hp kicker....Keeping in mind that I've never been on the lake and only driven around it once, can anyone suggest some good spots and what species to target on the lake at this time....IE: explicit directons or GPS coordinates would be awesome!

When we can get out now, between springers and steelies we troll rooster tails on the surface, no weight as slow as you can troll... cought a 27 inch brown last year doing that... with a white rooster tail trolled on the surface.

there is a new park and ramp at the eastern end of the lake. I have used it and it is nice. I will tell you this though, when the weather is hot and the water is low becarefull, the weeds grow thick in the shallows. Once you are out past the 5 mph signs the lake is about 30-50 ft deep. The water get warm and is nice. Hope to see you out there some time.

Thanks Cartman. Sturgeon has been dissapointing since the nets went in so unless I get some good reports between now and the weekend, I'm going to target Saturday for the initial lake exploration day. Anyone knowing the lake and how to fish it would be welcome on board. My boat is eqiuped with sonar, GPS, VHF, full camper top, trolling motor, music, on board BBQ and can accomodate three comfortably. I've not targeted 'little fish' in amost a decade, but I think I still remember how. Perspective crew members please email me.
