anybody ever crunch on a ducks head DC style.
From watching many of Phil Robertson's dvd's I've noticed one thing that he does that I'm intriuged by. he will put a duck out of it's misery by biting on it's head until a cruch sound is heard . Have any of you guys ever done this? I have yet to try it, put you have to hand it to Phil he's an innovator in this sport for sure.

Biting top to bottom or side to side?
I usually grab them by the body and smack the head on something hard.

Seen Jon do it before, he's one sick unit!, lol. You bite them side to side and crush the brain. I also prefer to either ring the neck or smack their head on something hard.

Side to side and don't try it on a Westerns. Easy beans and kills them dead.

Re: anybody ever crunch on a ducks head DC style.
I've seen the DC just bite the spinal column near the base of the skull... never seen the side to side. I have a buddy that does the base-of-the-neck bite... with varying degrees of success.

Re: anybody ever crunch on a ducks head DC style.
I think i'm going to sack-up and try it this year! I've done the ringing of the neck many times and almost until the head came off and that hen was still flopping around. I'll try the head crunch and see if it has better results.

Re: anybody ever crunch on a ducks head DC style.
I use Kurt's method... grab the body, and smack the head. I find it quick and humane. I might ring the neck first, but usually don't.
I don't think this is the year to be biting the heads of ducks and all, what with avian flu and all. Not that I'm a scare monger, but seriously, these aren't the cleanest animals in God's creation.

That's true Dave, you have a good point! maybe sasquatch will be the only one doing the head crunching. I don't think he'll have to worry about catching any diseases since he carries most of them already!

Re: anybody ever crunch on a ducks head DC style.
Yep, I've seen it done by a buddy of mine many times. However, like Marshbum writes, I prefer the "knock the head against something solid--lights out" method. I've tasted some funky things before (beating TUNA hearts, elk liver, fish eyeballs...), but likely will not find duck brains tasty.

I didn\'t notice a small #4 hole and....
lets say it was the end of my head bit'n...I filled my mouth with blood-n-brains!!! It curls my toe-nails thinking about it. He musta been grazed or had his skull cracked but he was holding his head up and swimming. Now I hold the head with the bill in my palm of my right hand, and other hand hold the neck. Then I twist the head untill the spine breaks at the base of the skull. Kinda like opening a twist-top beer. Its very quick when you get it down, and not as mean looking. Justa grab, twist, drop...I'd make Steven Segal flinch he-he!- Seth Freeman

Hey Jon. Those birds taste better when they are plucked, skinned and cooked. You may want to try it out

Re: anybody ever crunch on a ducks head DC style.
Avian flu is real folks. I would hate to lose an ifisher or two because they bit a deadly duck.
May I recommend a pair of pliers? Another method that works great is a knife blade inserted through the roof of the fowl's mouth into the brain. Very permanent.
