Default did anyone feal the huge quake in the ocean???

For many years now I have been feeling these huge vibrations or quakes. The USGS keeps calling them earthquakes and claim that they happened at sea. Well I now know that they are wrong and I have proof to what they are.

Sunday I was out near the 125 by 46.07 line and it just hit me. After cleaning up on 25 tuna the quake began we could feel it right there on my boat, I think that days quake was caused by me and my boat. So here is what it is when a boat becomes a force to reckon with the tuna all send off this huge vibration at the same time which causes a small "earthquake". So all these years of earth quakes at sea just think how many tuna have been shaking each time a captain gets his fins.

All kidding aside now here is the report from Sunday and Monday. After being kept in port for most of the season by wind or work I scratched a crew up and headed out in the dark for a long run to tuna town. Running wing with all the usual players:Catch&Eat,Keywest on the Manki and Miss B. Our goal for that day was just a tri-fecta consisting of tuna, halibut and salmon.
61 degree water is where it really turned on for us after working water from 59 to 61. The fish didn't take any hand lines but what ended up taking most of the 25 tuna was trolling fish traps at about 4.4 mph. One would hook up and on the drop we would pick up another. We never had lights out tripples but we just kept picking ones and twos all day long. What a day it was blood all over so much that I think that OJ must be right there was someone else there. Wrapped up the tunners at 25 fish as now the carking was creeping into the back of my mind as was my pillow. Headed to the halibut hole to pick up a couple. Only one hali made it to the box small but tasty but time was ticking and it was time for a salmon. Fished the CR but the fadding desire to complete the tri-fecta I broke the news to the crew and for some reason they were ok with it.

Carked my fish and showered hit the pillow by 10pm eyes closed and then it was 5am. Mind and body were not togethor but I still managed to pull them togethor for another run outside.

New crew and a captain with a little swagger in his gate made it further south to the 46.04 and 125 line and a sweet pocket of 63 degree water. Struggled pulling clones with no take downs only 2 fish on ceder plugs before I said its fishtrap time. Then we trolled again looking for jumpers. We would hook up on the pull up shut the motor off and then just cast into the boils. Wow there is nothing more fun than casting into them and then watching your line start ripping on the ol'line counter. Mondays fish were quite a bit larger all the way around so settling for 16 fish wasn't so bad. My crew was very happy with the day and the fun to be had.

Special thanks for the help from Catch&Eat and Keywest for all the ideas over the last month. They worked well and I had a figgin ball.

Here were some of the highlights of the lessons learned by the captain.

1-when fighting 3 fish at the same time don't clean the blood and gut the fish for cooling down until your ready to move. I brought in a solid 8 foot blue but I think it was a bit larger. There were also a couple of other swimming around. Tuna on the hook didn't seem to like the shark and one came right to the surface as the shark chased it. It tried hidding between the kicker and the back of the boat only to find safe refuge in the cooler... he he

Also I was able to really pin down my fuel range ran the entire day out and back to the CR bouy on one tank. I figure I used about 60 gall total on Monday on 63 on Sunday. Extra fish will slow down the boat that is for sure.

All and all I had the time of my life and my bloody dream came true. The best part was that 90% of the fish were caught on Loomis BBR rods what a Kick I can't wait to fish with live bait.... Picture to come after my sleep deprived brain can figure out how to load them on this site. Thanks to both crews for the fun and the all the good times we had. Treb

Got to love that tsunami of blood and red rain showers. You did good Treb and you are a quick study.

Wow.....all this time I thought it was Dean coming off the top of another wave.

Dean told me he thought it was me hitting bottom on my air ride seat.

this is just a theory of mine I will have to do a double blind study very soon to prove or disprove it. But I do believe that there were tremmers as sound under water does travel very fast. Tuna talk could be the other theory. I will have to get back to you on this one.

Air ride seats.... hummmm I like the sound of that I am sure my crew would have wished that I slowed down some we all needed some IBP to feel better.
