How to price out health insurance?

Lets assume you couldnt get insurance for your family through work, and needed to buy it on your own. Where/how would you go about getting quotes? I have blue cross blue shield right now, and ideally would keep it....but lets say I needed to get that coverage on my own, and not through work....then what??

I have my "own" health insurance, not a group plan. It covers me and my family, my wife landed on our current carrier a few years ago after shopping via the yelow pages and the internet. It can be quite a job, comparing coverages, from company to company and seeing apples to apples.

I found it to be a $$$$$, we have no dental or vision, just basic health care. We have "Lifewise" they are a Oregon company out of Bend,(switched from Blue Cross) and I can tell you they have be great. I would think the best test of a persons coverage is when it gets used, and we used it for a major claim.

Just shop and compare, we have a very high deductable, this making it more affordable for us. I think the wife got over 10 quotes, before we found the right one for us. Some of the quotes may come from a insurance person sitting down with you, or on the phone, or by email, there are tons of companys out there, good luck if you shop.

There are a couple of companies out there that offer individual medical coverage for families. PM me if you would like the name of an insurance agent that can help you with your options. Coverage costs you no more by going through an agent, than it does searching for yourself. And by using an independent agent, they would have access to many different companies and plan types.

Talk to an independant agent that represents all the major health carriers. They can explain the best coverages for the best price. Drop me a PM and I can hook you up with an agent that represents all the major carriers. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the internet for your health insurance. There are too many companies out there that look good price wise that will leave you holding the bag with a major hospitol stay.

look up Fishnxtc here on ifish. not sure if he does it anymore, but he used to be an agent/broker. i used him to get insurance for my wife before we were working and had benefits. he found a great plan for our needs.
