I\'ll be working the wind
To any and all bowhunters,
Take a strip of red flag or some bright chartruese etc.
I will be working the ridges and canyons of the blue mtns for grouse over the first week of Sept and #1) I do not want to mess up your big game hunt.
If you see bird dogs working, please hang some bright orange or some other obvious color from your stand or your hide out.
If I can see you, I'll gather the dogs up and move downwind, or just avoid the area in entirety.
I have months to hunt these birds, and you fellows only have a short time (respectively) so just let it be known with a bright color (undetectable to deer) and I will do my very best to steer clear of you.
Please be extra careful in those tree stands, enjoy the day and Good luck with your hunts.
DB

Re: I\'ll be working the wind
if you know that we only have some short time why can't you wait until rifle season?

Re: I\'ll be working the wind
Why cant you be satisfied that I am trying not to cramp you?
Most hunters wouldn't even mention it.
FYI other people out there use the same backroads that you an me do .
Some of them give a rats behind about other peoples hunts (me) and wanted to step up to do something constructive to help bowhunters and Birdhunters.
For sure a guy would be hard pressed to bag a buck with packs of fired up pointers and setters and labs of all shapes and color blowing the thickets and draws in the early A.M..
I'm not going to sideline my dogs for anyone's season, but I'm sure as (heck on a pogostick) not going to march my dogs through someones treestand route either.
I want to hunt and hunt hard, but everyone else should have that luxury.
Work with me here man. I am trying to better your chances of baggin game too!

Re: I\'ll be working the wind
I won't be there but I apprectiate you saying you will work with us. I know that you have as much right as any of us to be out there. Not every one is so considerate...

Re: I\'ll be working the wind
THANK you ehunter.
For crying out loud... you got it.
I am shooting for cinsideration of other folks ... I am certain that I am in a minority as strictly a bird hunter, but I've no doubt in my mind that there are many bird hunters out there that are cool with getting out of a creek bed or drainage to let a bowhunter hunt out his day or (days)
Birds can split with the flit of a wingtip, a deer or elk is not the same, and I realize that, and I also realize that the scent of a couple of dogs and a sweaty man can completely blow a hunt for a big game hunter... (this is what i what to avoid)
All I am saying, is that if you are up in a tree, or hunkered out somepleace... drop some sign (a few squares of flannel, or some red tape etc on the side of the ridge that you are in, and I won't go there.

Re: I\'ll be working the wind
I've hunted all 3 and i thought that it was a good gesture that Duckboy let people know that he is going to be hunting but has also let them know that he is willing to stay out of their way. I usually archery hunt in the mornings and evenings, then hunt grouse in the afternoons. Good luck to everybody with their hunts!!!

Re: I\'ll be working the wind
There are loads of birds out there,
I do not want to have dogs in tow that mess up anyone else.
Can you dig it?

probably because he is just as anxious to get started on his season opener as you are yours.
good post DuckBoy! i'll be in the woods with my dog on Sept 1st as well. i try to stear clear of the bowhunters as much as possible as well. doesn't always work out that way though. at least the guys i've met thus far have been pretty understanding about everyone's right to the woods.
