CR Report Tuesday and Wednesday
Fished Tuesdays and Wednesday (22nd and 23rd) with three 11 and 12 year old boys. We had a blast. Ran south to the 46.01 line (14.5 miles south of the South Jetty) and started fishing in 180 feet. At 250 feet we got into them. Our first action all four poles went down (Chinese fire drill) we lost one and got 3 to the boat, 1 shaker, 1 16 pound native and one 14 pound keeper. We worked the area for several hours and had constant action. We were fishing at 14 and 16 pulls. After about 4 fish in the box I dropped a whole herring down 70 pulls and bang. Garret picked up the pole and the drag broke lose and we had an instant backlash. Couldn’t reel in or let line out. I put the boat in neutral and grabbed a spare pole and cut the swivel off. I waited until I had a little slack on the other pole and cut that line. I quickly tied them together with a fisherman’s knot and reeled up the slack. The fish was still on. Garret landed his first fish ever:
18.5 pound king.
We ended up the day with a nice catch:
Happy boys.
We went south again to the same spot on wednesday. No action. Began trolling south west and at 270 feet 19 miles south we found them. Great time, kids were great. These fish averaged 14 pounds. The boys had a little trouble controlling them but all in all they did great.

Re: CR Report Tuesday and Wednesday
Nice report. Do those young men give advice on how to catch a salmon? I could certainly use some.

Well done. Thanks for sharing and inspiring us. I'll be taking my 26 yo daughter out this weekend if weather cooperates. She started fishing with me when she was in kindergarten.

Re: CR Report Tuesday and Wednesday
KJ, not only did he imprint them, but he probably ruined them for life as well. When I was just touch older than those boys I spent three summers in Alaska fishing. I was ruined for life. I will always remember the numbers of fish I would catch up there.
In any case, way to go Whaler.

Re: CR Report Tuesday and Wednesday
As you can tell by their smiles the boys are hooked. I was in error on their ages, they are 11 and 12 year olds. They seemed much older and handled themselves better than some adults I have had on board .

Re: CR Report Tuesday and Wednesday
That's the way to groom your crew and to insure you have someone to take you fishing someday..
Great report..
