Re: broken arrow
I do all my own. I'm pretty careful but I've had a vane or two come lose. The last batch I did, I had one color of a vane that wouldn't set very well and I ended up using a different brand of glue.
They should stand behind thier product with good service. With that being your experience you should then get your own fletching tools. I hear Broaken Arrow sells them.
Remember the AUP, if you rant on a person or company you need to post your full real name.

Re: broken arrow
I bought my bow there 4 years ago, they messed it up when they put it together and were reluctant to fix it, even though I had pointed out the problem before I had shot it the very first time!! I sent a carbon arrow into their floor about 5 feet in front of me that skipped 20 yards into the bottom of the bails. They ran over to see what the heck happened and I said " now do you beleive that the nock is way off!" they still insisted that it was ok. So i let another sail needless to say they finally fixed it and charged me 15 bucks!! Will NEVER go back.

Re: broken arrow
I bought my bow from them and not much else.
I felt like they nickel and dimed me for everything.
Me and my hunting buddies have nick named the place Broken Wallet because of there prices.
Concerning arrows, I do my own.
For the cost of 1-2 fletchings you can buy a jig and be self sufficient, it doesn't take long, you get customized arrows and pride in seeing something you made fly well.
From my experience, a couple of things could cause a fletching to fall off.
1) The jig, assumming left or right helical is not correctly adjusted for your arrow diameter.
2)The bottom of the vane is dirty and should be wiped with a Qtip dipped in some solvent like acetone.
3) The shaft is dirty and needs to be wipped with clean with a solvent.
Once I started doing these 3 things, I haven't had a fletching fall off.
In accordance with the AUP,my name is Chancellor Archie, and I'm a former Broken Arrow customer.

Pacific Crest Archery in Salem does an outstanding job on everything they do. Ask for Ray and he'll get it done right for you or he'll fix it. Kris .

Re: broken arrow
I stopped going there after i went and shot over at there range. Their bails were soft and i was burying my arrows to the nock. The arrows were brand new axis arrows ,it was the first time shooting them. when i told them that the bails needed replacing and they were messing up the fletching they were happy to give me a quote to fix them, instead of replacing as they should have due to there crappy bails. Ive had nothing but bad experiences when ive gone there, they hover over you and consistantly are bad mouthing the other bow shops in town. Because of there poor workmanship, over priced stuff, and lack of professionalism. They to will not get another dollar from me.

Re: broken arrow
I have never bought anything from them. But, I think they are the ones who have that video simulation range. That shoot is worth at least one trip to the store.

Re: broken arrow
The same owners dont even own it anymore since four years ago. I went down this summer and bought some axis arrows and had them fletch them and havent had one problem. The new owner I talked with for about an hour was very knowledgable and fun to talk with. I bought my second bow from the origional owners about 4 years ago and appreciatted the deal they gave me and the opportunity to shoot many bows before I decided on the one that felt best to me. One of my brothers bought his first bow from them as well, I went with him and he was treated the same as I. Now with that being said if I had lots of time the only place I would ever go would be the Bow Rack in Eugene and deal with wayne himself. At least once a year I go down there anyway and shoot my bow for him through paper and let Wayne tune it. I take multiple shots for him maybe buy something that he suggets for it or just something I may want and he does all his labor for free.

Re: broken arrow
I have to weight in on this:
Chuck the new owner is a great guy. Consider the name the same but it really is a brand new place very a very knowlegable staff. I am pleased that are on my end of town because I haven't had much luck with the other shops in town. Altough I didn't buy my Martin from them they did a lot to help get started with archery and deal with the problems.
As for the Fletching falling off I have had the same problem. They attribute that to a batch of glue they got.
They went and re-did the fletching and the inserts for free and were very quick about it. Since then I have had no problems.
Yes, the bails have had problems but they keep working on improving them. The last few times I shot there I had no problems.
If you approach Chuck or any of his employees about a concern They will be all ears.
Personally compared to any other shop in our area
They are the best.......

Re: broken arrow
I fletch my own, but have a friend who has had trouble with arrows purchased there. I personally dont like the glue they use. In any case, other than that ive never had a problem with them. they usually charge me less than they quote, if anything, for most of the services they provide. I often go in and have them tweak my bow and they often do it for free. Jon has helped me iron out some serious problems with my bow. I have yet to find a "great" bow shop, but broken arrow is the best ive found so far.

Re: broken arrow
Back in the 'old days' before instant glues, fletching used to fall off because the shops would buy fletchTite in bulk and It gets old. That adhesive needs to stay out of the light also. The new instant adhesives won't work on all vanes either. Most shops buy cheep vanes, instant glue, never shoot their own mass made arrows and never really know they are building junk.
Buy a Bitzenburger fletcher, FlexFletch, Vanetec, or new Blazer vanes and an appropriate glue. Instant glue works great on Vanetec but you really have to clean FF and they stick best with a "new" tube of fletchtite.
There really is no reason to be buying made up arrows. vanetec's and "future glue" from Wallmart and they'll never come off. Same with short wraps and the new Blazer broadhead vanes and future glue. You can do a doz. in an evening.

Re: broken arrow
I also fletch my own but I like Broken Arrow.
My bowstring broke the day I was to leave hunting (OK, I cut it with a broadhead).
I showed up late on on busy day and even though there were plenty of other jobs ahead of mine, they fixed my bow while I waited. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I also buy my arrows from them, I have used their range and never had a problem but my arrow speed is only 234fps. They also have place to shoot through a chrono that they don't charge for.
I have often found that getting good customer service can be as simple as asking (nicely) for it. Be insistant in explaining your needs/problem and don't be a hothead. Most of the time it is only a matter of getting to the person who wants to say yes.
Sometimes I run into people in business that lead me to believe that the reason they are in business is because they couldn't hold down a job becase they were such jerks. These people need a steady stream of new customers to stay in business because they drive people away. I do not believe that Broken Arrow fits into this catagory.
If you want a bargain, go to eBay. If you want support from local businesses, support them. Perhaps you could give them another chance.

Re: broken arrow
Well, I bought my bow from them 5 years ago when they were still out on Mcloughlin. When I bought it they had a guy working there that was very knowledgeable. John something or other, anyway I was brand new to archery, he set me up gave some tips and was extremely helpful. He left there to go to Sportsmans WH when they opened up. Then about 2 years ago I was again in Broken Arrow and the shop seemed to have changed a bit. The sales guy didn't even seem remotely interested in showing me some of the new bows. People on the range seemed more like they were working then having fun. I walked out thinking what the heck happend to this place. Then I started doing all of my archery business with On Target in downtown Milwaukie. They were great to deal with and to buy from. They were fair priced, not cheap but fair. Now Broken Arrow has bought On Target and put thier name on the bulding. I was in there the other day for some last minute fine tuning and was once again impressed with the service I received maybe being in a new building gave them (BA) a new outlook. I'm not sure about prices now but I will attest to their shooting bails being Waaaaay too soft. If your shooting carbons and greater then 60#'s be prepared to have to replace your fletchings before you leave. Just my $.02

You Know I have held off on this thread but Its time to stand up. Everything above is word for word what I would have said. I live in troutdale and Last week I needed a new string. I drove in to Broken arrow and it was fixed in a heart beat. These guys IMHO arent as good as Norm and the boys were but there still better than 90 percent of the shops Ive been into.

Re: broken arrow
I gotta chime in on this. I have spent lots of time in BA and have had mixed results. my last two trips have been polar opposites of each other. I went in about 2 weeks ago to get some new arrows, they had to fletch them up and told me it would be up to 4 days before they were ready. The lady in the back then noticed that she had a half dozen jigs open and threw mine in to complete the batch! I was very impressed with the service I recieved that day. Lets fast forward to the next day when I arrived to pick up my arrows. The inserts were not glued in and the arrows were not ready to shoot as I expected. They glued them and I had to sit and wait for the glue to set so I could give my bow that final tune. I was having a tough time getting a good tear through the paper and was really working hard to correct the problem myself. I asked for help and was told they would be right with me, so I continued to adjust and tinker and 45 minutes later I finally got a bullet hole on my own! After repeating the process and being satisfied that everything was good to go I was approached and finally asked what my problem was. Sorry guys but I already have it figured out!! I gotta say this was midweek in the early afternoon(2pm or so) and they were not super busy!! It seemed that the regulars garnished much more support and technical advice than the once in a while customer. Thats just my most recent experience so take it for what its worth.

Re: broken arrow
I spend a lot of time at broken arrow through out the year.
I shoot there regularily. What I have observed is that
YES ! There are regulars that come in there on a regular basis to shoot and buy service. Then there are those that wait till the last month or just a week or two before the season. I have seen this happen many times. They didn't draw a rifle tag so they decide to buy a bow at the last minute and expect to walk in buy a bow and shoot like Robin Hood in one night.

My experience was last year when I asked them for advice on a bow I was considering buying. They had me into maximum price for everything they said I needed before it was ready to hunt. I felt like they were trying to rip me off.
