Default Backup Bilge Pump tried and tested..

Well with a bit of wind this last weekend I was able to test a back up pump for my bilge.

We all have wash-down pumps for cleaning blood and other stuff off the deck. Well I filled my bilge with approx 20 gallons of water. Pulled the inflow hose after closing the intake valve and placed it deep in the bilge.

2 minutes later dry bilge even better than the bilge pump. So now I am going to plum a quck conect fitting to remove the washdown line and have another ready attached deep in the bilge for quick hook up.

Thought some of you might like to hear about this. Anyone have a way of making this work better lets hear it.

thanks

Treb

I'd like to see pics of the final product when you're done. I've been thinking about this same thing. I've got a great primary bilge pump, but would like a switchable backup - even if it's a valve to my washdown pump.

I think a brass 3 way valve would be trick. You could switch from raw water to bilge water.

I'm trying to figure out how to switch from my freshwater holding tank to raw water to bilge. Maybe two in-line valvles.

do you have a john[head] in your boat. we ran a raw water hose to the wash doen on my friends boat. He then has a valve to switch from raw to fresh.

If you have a head its real easy.

If not time to make a hole in the hull....
