Default new to this forum, with question

A little about me since I am new here, I am 51 years young and a Christian man who loves family, friends, hunting and fishing. I live about 2 mile from the cowlitz river in castle Wa. I recently ordered a new boat ( like last sat. ) and wooldridge said it would take about 5 to 6 weeks to build, a 17ft 6in alaskan, and I am shopping for a fish finder for the new boat. suggestions are appreciated. I do want a color screen 5in or bigger, would like to be able to use some of the hot spot map programs, and other map programs, witch also means it needs to be gps I think, probably only need a single frequency for CR and smaller rivers and lakes, can I get some ideas of some better units. I would like stay under $750. if possible.

My wife and I are about to have boat, with 115/80hp jet and 8hp 4-stroke yahamas

Linetight,

Welcome to the Salty Dogs! And Congrats on the new member of the family. I have a Lowance 335C in my boat. Good fish finder/GPS. I does seem to have an ongoing issue though. It doesn't like getting hit with other boat's radar. If failed for the second time as a yacht running it's radar in the bay painted my boat and wiped out the 335C's GPS capability. See the following post from the first time it happened...
Radar Kills GPS

All I know is Lowance has a know problem with my model. Wak'm had the exact same issue with his Lowance. I don't know what other brands are affected. Anyone?

It's just a problem with certain Lowrance units. They claim to have the problem fixed on the newer ones. I had a 5" Lowrance color GPS on my last boat with no problems. Lowrance and Garmin both make good units within your price range. Good luck.

I just got a Lowrance 337 awhile back and love it.
You can put memory sticks with maps.

Yes, mine is one model older than yours WBTC. I do believe that they got that problem fixed with the next generation. I also believe yours is identical to mine except your pixel resolution is better. I do really like mine when it's working. Very easy to use and the sonar picks up fish very predictably (in water less than 200 ft).

Thanks for the info. I happen to be in portland area today for my daughter's college graduation, so I stopped by fisherman's marine and left with the lowrance 337c df. I talked to the saleman there about the radar killing the gps and was told, problem fixed, they shielded the antenna, but you should still keep radar more than 2 feet away. Now I just need to learn how to use it when my boat get's here.
