Default West High Cascades Advice Needed

I drew the west high cascades hunt and am headed out in four weeks for my first ever deer hunt . Unfortunately for me my buddies drew montana and they are not hunting oregon this year so I am going it alone. I would love any advice y'all could give me about deer hunting in general and any good places I should consider looking to find a buck in that unit (prefferably north of detroit).

Thanks,
Adam

Search this forum. There has been GREAT advice on here the last few weeks.(thanks guys) Get a good map and scout early. ODFW should be sending you a map. This year looks like it will probably be very dry. The deer will here you coming a mile away so it might help to find a good sitting rock with a view before daylight and wait for em. Blacktail sometimes will wait until the last second to bolt so if your walking do it slow and stop and look and repeat. Good luck there a lot of big bucks up there and don't forget your cat tag.

stay high. i did that one a few years back. we were going to pack into three fingered jack, but the BB complex fire kept us out so i had to re-plan a trip on short notice.

it was about 80 degrees during the day..we didn't see much where we we ended up hunting which was much lower on the mountain that we should have been.
