Hey, what do I know?

We took one of our Jetcraft boats down for the tourney. I was joined by Skein, Dip Sea Diver, and my fellow salesman Phil Andrews(a.k.a. Turtlesoup on Ifish). Mr. Turtlesoup managed to land the big fish and won the tournament last year and I believe is wanting to keep the title!

Lots of fun. Good people. In my opinion it's still poison water though.

Hey I was thinking about doing that this year. I am not totally worried about winning it, but do people catch a lot of fish during that deal?

The fishing was a little slow last year. I think there was 30 fish or so for 60 or so boats. We caught 2. It all depends if the fish will cooperate. We have done pretty well if the fish cooperate.

Last year we weighed about 30 plus fish. A lot of people don't bother weighing their fish due to not being big enough to place 1st,2nd or 3rd. My boat had two fish but our biggest might have been 15 pounds. The biggest fish caught in the last four years was 42lbs. Last year we had one close to 30 lbs that won.

Update on Rouge Brewery auction, we have only 50 tickets left. After they are sold, we are closed for this event.
Also we have over 60 people signed up for the Salmon Tournament. The dead line is Oct 1st. Sign up soon at England Marine, Harry's Bait and Tackle, Newport Marina Store or Newport Marine and RV. Don't be left at the dock "Wishin You Was Fishin".

Just wanted to clear up any misunderstandings about sign up for the tourney.

Sign up is allowed until the morning of the tournament, October 8th, at the check in at South Beach Marina. Participants signing up and paying fees after October 1st will not be eligible for the tourney t shirt that is part of the sign up packet. Our shirt printer cannot guarantee a delivery of shirts after that date, so we were forced to make the cut off on Oct 1. All entrees received after Oct 1st can fish of course, they just don't get the free tourney t shirt. Check in for the tourney on Oct 8th goes from 0545 to 0900 hours. There will be free chowder and sodas at the weigh in, along with drawings for some additional prizes.

We are looking forward to a great day on the water. Two boat vendors and truck dealers have been added to our list of sponsors and will have their products at our event. One of the boat vendors is Stabi-Craft, an ifish.net sponsor. ODFW has delivered 29,500 smolt to a rearing pond at the Oregon Coast Aquarium for acclimation before their release into the Yaquina River and they are being tended to and fed by volunteers from the Longview Hills Fishing Club. We have had great community support and welcome all to this event.

I'd actually like to hear more about the Salmon Enhancement program that benefits from the tournament. Any details?

The Salmon Enhancement Program is run by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. They raise smolts in an estuary on the Yaquina River by the Oregon Coast Aquarium. They released 30,000 smolts a couple of days ago, which have been fed by the money raised by the tournament. Our money in the future will continue to go towards feed, traps for when they return, nets and cages and any other supplies that they need to help with their brewed stocking program. If you have any further questions you can contact James Ray, with ODFW, at 541-867-0300 ext 253.

thanks for the info. I was always under the impression that the Yaquina was purely a native fish run but it sounds like at least some of the future runs may be supplimented by this hatchery program.

Just a reminder that this is the last couple of days to sign up for the tournament and still get your free t-shirt. You can enter up to and including the morning of the tournament (until 9 AM), but you won't get your t-shirt as part of the entry fee if it isn't in to one of our 4 businesses taking registrations by 10/01.

Good luck to all!
