Re: record fish in oregon as of 2001
Super Fluke, Nick Rubeo from this board caught the new state record smallie in Hagg, at 8lbs 1.76oz (2005). And the newest state record largemouth was caught in Bellanger Pond in Springfield a few years ago (2002) and it was 12lb 1.6 oz by Adam Hastings. These numbers are posted on Oregon Bass and Panfish's web page.

Re: record fish in oregon as of 2001
The real story of the record Golden Trout:
In the fall of '83 while deer hunting in the Wallowa Mtns. I noticed that there were golden trout in ^**&$# creek. I mentioned it to a friend of mine who replied, "I used to run a pack string up there. We called it the "Hellhole".
I observed, "You know DW, there isn't any record on the books for a golden trout in Oregon".
Fast forward to 1987. DW went into the Hellhole, cot a golden trout, put it on ice and took it to the store in Richland where it was measured to be 10" long and weigh 7 ounces.
With typical bureaucratic efficency and accuracy, that fish was recorded to be: SEVEN pounds, TEN ounces!
That record will never be broken!!!

that sunfish record is mighty small. Out of my home lake too!!
Someone should easily beat that.

48lb carp, Hells Canyon Reservoir two years ago. Will try to dig up pic. Wife and Pine Creek store as witness. Electronic Scale, not to sure if working correctly but huge fish. Caught fishing for catfish, thought i had a huge flathead but turned out to be nasty carp.

That Golden Trout record is hilarious!! California actually has some really big ones so I never really questioned the OR record before. Does anyone know that story on the Rogue River "Rainbow" record????? Does it seem a little odd that the record rainbow would come from a river that also has steelhead? Does anyone find that "fishy" or what's the story??????

I remember that fish from when I was just a kid living in Prospect Just up the road from where it was caught. They (ODFW) did test the fish to see if it might have been a Steele but to no avail it had never seen Salt water
It was almost as fat as long from what I remember from the picture.
But hey that was only 25 years ago.

I don't know the story but it was probably caught in the Holy Water section where the trout can grow huge. I also don't think Steelhead or Salmon can get to it because of the dam.

It was actually caught about 10 miles down river from the dam, it was in a section behind a ranch that is right on the river.

Re: record fish in oregon as of 2001
Lived in Prospect for five years and always enjoyed fishing behind the springer fishermen for LG trout. Used the salmon flies sm hooks with a fly bobber 4lb line on the noodle rod.
Didn't land a hug one but got to fight a few!
Wife took my rig on a day trip upriver and did come home with a 8lber once. I never could understand how she landed it, the reel was backlashed so bad I had to cut half of the line off of it! And it was a spinning reel!
The late summer fishing was great was in the upper Rouge above HWY 62 JCT. ultra light equipment!
Man I miss that area!

Re: record fish in oregon as of 2001
Hmmm
i could of easily beat the sunfish record because last year there were enormous sunfish at a pond down the street from my house and they were huge. So i just went down there with a fly rod and caught about 20 of these huge fish. This year they have not gotten as big so i would have to find 1 big 1 . But luckily it may not take that long .
