Thanx Catch and Eat- First TUNA! Pics...

This is TOC... Tunagin no more, reporting from a lap top where I am canning, and soon to be cooking TUNA!

Headed out with a great captain on the fine new fishing vessel Kool Kat. The ride there in rough seas was probably much more tolerable because of the great ride that cat has. As we approached the TUNA! grounds we heard the cry from Tracker on the radio of triple, triple, triple- and it sure got the heart thumpin!

Not long after deploying gear the crew let me reel in the, and my first fish. They sure do pull something fierce! What followed was a day full of catching, laughs, blood, some good tangles, and nice chope but overall great fun!

Thanks to Bernie for the seat, and to CD for showing me the ropes on cleaning those smelly tuners!

And the fleet (Just Keep Fishing, Time Out, and Odin, from near to far) headed for the barn!

So, how long will this fish last in the fridge? Can I freeze it for a few days and then can it, or is that not recommended?

Fresh fish is like relatives, good for about 3 days then it starts to stink.
No problem canning after freezing. Just make sure to thaw it completely first.
Congrats on the fish. Did Bernie make you mow the lawn to get a seat? Did you have to walk the dog too?

It's good to hear someone else had tangles. I was feeling bad about shortening the lines on three of Popeye's rods, but I decided we were doing him a favor by cutting away the worn sections of line. The tangle factor is pretty great with four handlines and four rods. It's probably amazing when a fish doesn't tangle something.
