outrigger pics
I finally got around to completing my outriggers, I mocked up one last weekend that didnt work but I learned a ton while I used it for a few hours, since I have never been on a boat with outriggers.
I used Sch 40 - 6061 tempered pipe. 1.25 for the outer pipe and 1 inch for the inner pipe.
Here is a pic in the stored and transporting position. Outside the rail and out of the way.
I can fish the outrigger at 9 feet, or I can telescope 5 feet out making it a total of 14 feet.
I then fold the outrigger into the up position ( I still need to clean off the pen marks )
Then it folds into the out position
I only have one rope on this supporting it in the pic back to the arch. I will have another rope supporting it to the front cleat also when fishing.
Not counting release clips, I have less than $100 in parts and pieces. It seems to be a workable design, not as fancy as the high dollar models, but they should fish. Or at least I hope so.

Re: outrigger pics
They look stout, I doubt you'll need the guy lines. I tried em on mine and took them off, too much trouble while bouncing in heavy seas. No real stress on the poles with the releases set reasonable.

Re: outrigger pics
They look good and will fish good I'm sure and also you can pull the motor out of your buddies pu with out a hoist....Good job..........Ray
I put on some this year and what a ball just to hear them snap off..............we caught 8 or 10 a week ago on them, I had mine set up for double lines, cut them off was too much, single line at 15 or so feet, gives you a couple lures in clean water..............

Re: outrigger pics
KJ they are 14 feet, though I have 3 feet of overlap on the telescope and could go another foot or two.

They are aluminum, and weigh less than 12 pounds. I could have been much lighter if I had used aluminum tubing, but didnt want them to break and figured extra aluminum is a good thing and used the Sch 40.
Miss B, dont you know all the dumb fish are on the left, figured I would just fish out that side of the boat.

Re: outrigger pics
Very, Very clever
Like the heavier gauge aluminum. My outrigger poles are made of light tubing and have snapped twice, at the base, when Tuna hit. (OK, need to lighted up on the release tension, however, with light poles, it is a fine adjustment, no room for error).
Heavier duty outriggers are on my winter project schedule.
May borrow your idea, thanks for sharing.

Dan
Are you considering making and selling these outriggers? I would be interested.

Re: outrigger pics
Looks great Roy.
Do you have them pinned so they don't move up when deployed in bouncy seas?
