The Rattlesnake adventure
Well, In addition to getting my dogs Snake shots, I decided to go out to Scappose today with Alex and ginger to get them their real life exposure to some Live and (VERY AGGITATED rattlesnakes)
I met some nice folks out there, most folks had purebred dogs, and I think that they were a little taken aback by my hounds, being that they are of very mixed descent, I suppose i should expect a fair amount suprise when i tell folks that these dogs of mine hunt up birds, Badgers, rabbits, Coons, Turtles, and carp.
I was able to shake hands and meet a few nice folks that were supportive of the mindset that "any dog that will bring back game is a worthy pup" idea.
So I had the handlers walk each dog through the course, and they had 3 different snakes in real life settings.
They have an area with blackberry patches, and fields etc... so the dog thinks it is just out walking/hunting/ exploring, and when it comes into contact with the snake, they let the dog get up to it and sniff (meanwhile the rattles rattle and the snake coils up) and then they JUICE THE HECK out of the dog with a shock collar..
I suppose it could be viewed as barbaric by some folks, but I was very happy that I took the dogs through the course and gave them a bit of an education about how much bad news a Rattler really is.
I'd rather have a shocked dog that come back wagging its rain rotted tail.
Then a dead dog or a dog that is wrecked by a snake bite.
Nice folks, worth the money, definitley a good investment at $40 a dog.
