Default How to test a fuel gague?

I have one out of my dash. Can it be tested? Don't want to tear up the floor boards if I don't have to.

With the power supplied to the gauge, ground the lead that goes to the sending unit on the gauge. The gauge should peg to full. If the gauge pegs, it is OK and the sending unit is most likely bad. Probably a bad float.
