Tow rigs
Just wondering how many Ifishers out there splurged for a new boat dragger this Christmas. Namely a Ford or Dodge diesel 4x4 with the 6 speed manual, and how well you like them.
Good luck fishing this weekend everyone. -Gary

Re: Tow rigs
Geez Gary, is that half year old 'can't afFord' truck you bought new already giving you grief? Hope you make it to Hebo in the a.m. to meet me in time. To lighten up your towing load leave your rods and tackle boxes at home; ain't any fish. We can practice 6th bridge and look at salmon spawn?

Re: Tow rigs
Gary, I'll have Matt give you a call. He is really psyched for fishing after landing a 10# hen on the Wilson yesterday. Are you fishing the Nestucca tomorrow? What drift?

We don't need no stinkin car payment! The old '66 Chevy pickup drags a boat just fine. Been doin' it for 360,000 miles. Any questions?

Re: Tow rigs
Willie- I didn't splurge and buy a new one, but I do own a Dodge Cummins. Drove Fords for years, even test drove a diesel and then went to Newberg Dodge to try one of theirs. No comparison...I told them "I want this one". Mine's an automatic, but I pull 4 tons of hay up Bald Peak every year with it and have had absolutely no problems in 25K miles. 18-22 mpg everyday driving.

Re: Tow rigs
My new hauler isn't diesel, I opted for a 2000 GMC ext.cab pickup, with the 5.3L Vortec V8 and 4 speed automatic. Plenty of oomph, decent gas mileage for a 4x4 (18 highway), tows our little 16' smokercraft nicely. If I had a bigger load to tow, the 6.0L with the 6 speed Allison automatic that is available in the 2500 HD models looks sweet!

Re: Tow rigs
******,
We can always throw your truck into the back of my 600 lbs of torque thrust, chit and get Ford Powerstroke, if you wanted to bring it with. After going thru 3 engines in one year with a dodge, I figured it was time to step up. Ram tough is BS! Ice fished at Scootney today and got 3/4 bucket of Perch. Mighty fine vittles.

Re: Tow rigs
FNF, what did you do to that Flowerpoke to get 600lbs? I'm guessing my little 'ol ISB is pushing 550. Supposed to be 580 according to the chip but I don't think it's all there. Were those engines you burned through gassers or diesels??
