Caught down town portland on the east bank esplenade on one of the docks d-shotting a crawler.
Have'nt seen a lot of em but am sure there are some pigs in there.
Also I heard they catch straight pigs around the falls in the OC.

i have only cought one carp and it was foul hooked, actually i snagged it when i was younger :depressed: in the tail.. fought like a 10 pounder but he was about that size there. i wouldnt mind catching one just to catch it but i can never get them to bite although i havent spent to much time on it either!

huge fan of carp on a flyrod. i have been known to completely ignore good sized large mouth right in front of me because i don't want to spook the carp feeding 10 ft away! i've had more carp take me into my backing in the last year than all the trout, steelhead and salmon i've caught combined. i would like to do more fishing for smallies on the fly though...they put up quite a tussle as well! next fall i'm hoping to join my buddy for a trip to the boundary water in northern MN...smallmouth heaven. he goes every year and hammers them on flies.

here is a little bit bigger carp!

carp are not easy to catch with an artificial. they use their sense of smell a lot, so without scenting the fly, or fishing some type of bait you have to put it right to them to get a take. find a feeding fish, and basically feed him something that looks familiar to him (general nymph patterns work well) and then set the hook if it looks like he even thought about eating it. i've seen carp suck in a fly from 12 inches away, and spit it back out before i could set the hook. if you can't see them, they are really tough to catch with a fly.

First and only time I tried catching carp on the fly was near Mary S. Young sp in west linn. I was watching these 2 fish feed near the bottom in about 2-3 ft of water, after spooking them a couple times (horrible at fly casting) I finally got a gold hare's ear nymph to settle about 3 inches from the bigger one's nose. In the blink of an eye this fish took off in a cloud of silt and a hardy hi-ho silver with my nymph. The fish ran about 30 yards wrapped my 4lb leader around a log and broke me off. Now I just pack some bread or some "peanut butter carps" (peanut butter mixed with corn meal rolled into small bite sized morsles) when out fishing. They are a blast to catch and fight very hard. Biggest one I have landed on the willie was about 18+ lbs and was as long as my leg. Love those gold rockets!
