Default Vitally Interesting News - Part 1

Two items of great interest to N.W. outdoorsmen, especilaly fishermen, have become public this week. ...

The first item of interest is about the upcoming actions of Pres Elect GWB. Read on the frontpage of the Tuesday 12/26 morning edition of the Oregonian newspaper the article on the right side entitled "Bush is expected to overhaul U.S. rules". Please don't start another long political flaming thread again. This isn't a debatable subject. It is a factual artical written by Ester Schrader and Elizabeth Shogren of the Washington (DC) Post Service. It tells of Bush's inevitable changes that will serve big business at the expense of people's safety and the environment! We tried to tell you Bush voters of this and most of you posted into denial of the credibility of the political watchdog group findings of his track record against the enviroment and fish. Also, I would think that many of you that chose to counter these sound claims with public forum posts did so because the GOP agenda helped you out personally the most, not based on the obvious facts and likelyhoods. Read the article and what is coming that we warned of. To quote from the article: "Bush was propelled into the presidency by donations from entrepreneurs and financial and business interests at a level never seen before". It also quoted John Claybrook, former head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and current key member of the advocacy group 'Public Citizen', as saying "We expect them (Bush regime) to systematically stop certain things and to underfund others. They will probably take a really harsh look at anything that happened in the last three months of the Clinton administration. ... Getting regulatory activity going again will be very difficult, at least in a positive way". ...

In other words, people's health and forests aren't going to be the only things that will be sacrificed for bigger corporate profits. Read the article!

I was enlightened by Chnookie in his "Flaming political post?" that some of these points are debatable. So that is a good place to do it because it is clearly titled as a political post. That way those that are adverse to political discussion, even when it ivolves fish and the environment, can opt to avoid clicking on that thread. Thanks Chnookie. Let's close this thread and continue it in his, for anyone interested. It is very civil and likely will remain that way. I clarified what I intended the above post to say over in that thread. Thanks much Ifishers. - RT
