Re: Mission: Catch Grandpappy Catfish- Accomplishe
St. Louis Ponds. Some big Cats in there but it's hard to keep the little bullheads off your hook. Although I've started catching some larger, 15"ish bullheads lately which aren't too bad but I want Channel Cats! Saw a 6 lbs Channel Cat caught in Woodburn Pond near the weight station just north of Woodburn a couple weeks ago too.

Re: Mission: Catch Grandpappy Catfish- Accomplishe
what number pond did you catch it in? The only reason I ask is that my dad and I are planning a trip there to do some catfishing soon, and we didnt know which one had the best fish in it.
A p.m. would be fine if you dont want everyone to know.

Re: Mission: Catch Grandpappy Catfish- Accomplishe
Pale Rider- You owe me a dollar and lemme tell ya, it tasted damn good!
fishnfun- It was caught in the first pond by the gates. We hiked back a ways and fished at the far east end. All the ponds have some nice Cats in them but they've become very elusive over the years. I think the bullheads have crowded them out and all thats left are some of the older, larger ones. 8-10 years ago we'd catch a half dozen plus 18"-21" Cats every trip but so far this year thats the only one we've landed. Also the fact they close the place at sunset nowadays doesnt help either. So don't be shocked if you get skunked. My advice would be to hike to the back ponds, find a nice shady, deep spot and pray. Who's knows, you might get lucky and land a lunker. Good Luck.

Re: Mission: Catch Grandpappy Catfish- Accomplishe
Over 660 million pounds of farm raised Catfish was sold in the US last year. Trust me, you're the strange one if you don't like the taste of Catfish! I'll take a pan-fried piece of Catfish over any other freshwater fish, bar-none!

Re: Mission: Catch Grandpappy Catfish- Accomplishe
i only like eating it if it is a small fish and or i double or triple fillet it to make it more crunchy instead of mushy other than that it is good, but maybe not from those ponds

Yea the size I caught(about 4 pounds)is about the max I want to eat. The fish in those ponds taste very good, the water is pumped in from a well.

Yah know Pale Rider, although I never really considered myself a southerner, I have spent many years living in the south. And in all my years I have never heard a southerner use the word "hippie". I also have never, and I mean NEVER known a southerner who did not pay up on a bet. If you can't take ChannelCats word that he ate it then why would you make a bet. If you want to continue calling yourself a southerner I would suggest you pay up.

I'm sorry you have been sheltered. As to our bet, it is still pending. The terms are not your business. I already told you, you're not even my real dad, so stop telling me how to live! Mom left you years ago. Geese.

I know on the Yakima river your supposed to monitor your freshwater fish intake. Technically i'm not supposed to scarf this guy in a time span of less than 6 months.
I'll bet you a buck i aint eatin this thing!

Hey brother, this board is here for fun. When people get hormonal, it's time to have more fun. And as you can see people get hormonal. I think it goes in lunar cycles, or, monthly cycles. I guarnatee there's more drama here than all afternoon on the soaps!

Re: Mission: Catch Grandpappy Catfish- Accomplishe
a real southerner accepts another gentlemans word as truth unless he has evidence they are a scallywag or liar. In which case they would not engage in a bet in the first place.
Your refusal to pay up speaks more to your character than his.

Re: Mission: Catch Grandpappy Catfish- Accomplishe
We were fishing about a half mile south of Rock Island between Oregon City and Canby. It might be bigger then 28" because we measured it on one of the cooler rulers that went to 24" and it extended about 4-6" beyond. The beef liver came threw again.

Re: Mission: Catch Grandpappy Catfish- Accomplishe
We were fishing just north of Canby on the 99E side. There was a big gravle parking lot after you cross the RR tracks. Hard to say how deep the water was, maybe 20-30 feet? It's pretty shallow for aways before it drops off so you really gotta chuck it.

It's a Channel Cat. Looks white cause of the flash and the belly is facing the camera. It was pretty dark on top.
