Default Clothes Dryer???

Last night my wife put a load of clothes in the dryer and started it. When the buzzer went off she went to take the load out and they were still wet. She said it didn't seem like it went through the whole cycle, even if that were the case the clothes should have been somewhat dry.

I'm thinking that the heating element went out on the darn thing. Anyone have experience with this same sort of problem? Am I looking at a bigger problem than the heating element? And...is it very hard to change the element? If not, where is a good place to go for the part? It is an older Frigidaire.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Electric?

check your breaker(s) first. Often one side can go.

Elements are fairly easy to change...run a continuity test first, though.

Could be a switch, too.

Definitely check your venting for excess lint...although, that would have made the clothes warm.

Not a lot of parts to a dryer.

If you need to replace anything, call Universal appliance parts or Reliable and give them the model number of your dryer and a description of what you are looking for.

Keep in mind that you may be into this more than half the value of the dryer...that is always the point where I say it is best to replace the appliance...why spend good money to fix an old machine that most likely will have something else fail soon, anyways.

Good luck

Also, Frigidaire contracts with GE and Whirlpool to make their appliances...as it changes year to year, you could have either one. The appliance parts store will be able to tell.

Check out this link for more help on what you may want ot do next.

Thanks Tagster for the info. I did check the breaker and all good there. I haven't had a chance yet to run a continuity test, but I'm planning on doing that tonight. I was just looking at prices on heating elements and as you said, they can get spendy. I've bought the dryer used for $75 two years ago and have got my money out of it. So we may end up buying a new one like you said.

Thanks again!

I've fixed several dyers. I always look to see what problem is and then deside. high thermal cutout switch , temp thermistor, flyball switch on motor ,door switch ,temp switch , timer , heating coil. There's normally schematic inside control panel metal work. Check vent and hose for blockage.

Try time dry instead sensor dry.

Check wiring at terminal block(where cord attaches) to make sure wire didn't burn off there also. A dreyer will run and not heat on 120 volts.
