Would you?
I gotta say I probably would just because it would be a first harvested game animal with my bow. It might be hard but considering I have passed on numerouse cows the last three years holding out for a bull and eating tag soup I just might have to do it. Then again I can always keep my fingers crossed because its really all about the hunt isn't it!!

Re: Would you?
I did shoot a cow one opening morning.
I was about 12, and there were some cattle about 200 yards from a field I was setu p in.
Blasted some geese low on the field and the cattle sure started running like crazy... particularly beind the geese that we shot.
Fortunately no cows were injured beyond repair.

Re: Would you?
Well, assuming it was legal, I'd shoot
I passed up a cow opening morning last year, and didn't end up with anything. I don't really regret that, but I am not eating elk burger or elk steak tonight either.
It would be easier to deal with passing up a cow if you had some meat in the freezer from the year before.

Re: Would you?
Elk don't come easy enough for me to pass them up.
If its legal, a good shot, and within my effective range, arrows away.

Re: Would you?
I answered NO. Because where I hunt opening weekend in the western half of the Mt Hood National Forest it's illegal to shoot antlerless elk during archery season.

Re: Would you?
Nope,
That would ruin the late season and elk chasin in the snow...I just love it..

Re: Would you?
No. One of the beautiful things about hunting and fishing is the chance that you might not get exactly what I want. When I do, it's that much sweeter.

Re: Would you?
I've never shot an elk, so I'm sure as heck not gonna pass one up opening morning. It might be the only elk you can get a shot at all season.

Re: Would you?
Thats always a tough one. Last year my partner and I agreed to take the first legal elk so we had meat and then the other guy would bull hunt. He shot one opening morning and groaned all season and I passed up at least 8 good chances at cows but I didn't get a good chance at a bull. So this year if I see a cow I will have to do my part but man it would be a tough choice for me....
Last day of the season depending on how far back and the weather no doubt, I would shoot...

Re: Would you?
Didn't they change it to bull only for archery elk? Did they open up any units for cow harvest by bow this year?

Re: Would you?
Last couple years I passed up cow shots early trying to get to the bull with no luck. This year, late season plans have been conflicted by other responsibilites so I will take a cow opportunity if one presents itself. It's always a dilemma though, particularly when the six point is standing out there 50 yards past the cows who have you spotted but are not quite sure yet what to make of you but have started shuffling their feet and the jig is about to be up (that was last year). Or the raghorn standing out there at 30 yards in the trees with the 6" shot window and the cow about to run you over so you have to try to thread the needle whereupon a tree inexplicably leans into the arrow path just as you pull the trigger (2 years ago). Let the adventures begin!

Re: Would you?
Couple years ago I passed on a broadside cow at about 3 yards with 4 hours of light left on the last day of the season because I could hear a bull bugling in the basin.

Re: Would you?
Did I mention that my dad did exactly that (shot a cow opening day of archery season)? On the first year that I didn't hunt the opener. Then he came back to town and pulled me out of work to help him pack it out. Ugh. I'll pay him back for that this year though

Re: Would you?
I'm tired of tag soup. I'll shoot the first legal animal that gives me a shot I can make.
