Need advice ........ spinning reel line ( Tuff or Mono)
I bought my daughter a spinning reel for Christmas. I have used Tuff Line for Salmon fishing and was wondering what it would be like on a spinning reel for Winter Steelhead? She is still learning how to cast, would this work for her? If so what Tuff Line weight would be best on a 8-12 Lamiglas rod. What's this line like for drift fishing? Or is Mono still the best?

Re: Need advice ........ spinning reel line ( Tuff or Mono)
kingofbacklash,
I have used both mono and braid on spinning reels and I have to say that I like the mono better. For mono you want to use the soft lines that have NO memory like Trilene XL . The braided stuff is ok untill the line on the spool starts to get loose and then you bury the main line down into it. Also, when you tangle with the people around you the mono is much easier to get undone.
The other thing is if you hang up the braid can take a finger off if your not careful So my vote would be to go mono. I just spooled up tonight with 10 pound Trilene XL.
hope this will help.

I have to agree with Outlaw. The way to go is Mono. You'll have less problems and fish have a harder time seeing mono than tuff line. If you've ever gotten hung up with someone using tuff line it's a pain in the #*%!!:#!!**to get it untangled from around your good ol' mono.I like Maxima ultra-green.I use it for Chinookin and Steelies on both coffee grinders and bait casters no problems. Keep it simple and don't get fancy and you'll have more fun!!----Fishhead Vic If you do go sturgeon fishing and want to use a bait caster then give tuff line a try!

I'll have to agree with both Fishead, and Outlaw, I fish spinning gear about 95% of the time, fishing floats and jigs, and have had great success with both Maxima Ultra Green, and Izorline, I now fish with Izor exclusively, low memory, alot less stretch, and after a few casts with some fresh line, no phantom loops on the spool. and its cheaper than Maxima too! :-)
good luck & tight lines

Re: Need advice ........ spinning reel line ( Tuff or Mono)
As a predominant force in bass fishing back home, since moved here to the PacNW I have to say, "Keep the Trilene on the bass reels in the attic" Izorline is primarily the line I use now, and I love the stuff. Most bait and tackle places sell Izorline. The Fred Meyer close to me does not sell it, so call ahead to retail places. Right now as of last night, I will be using 12lb Izorline platinum as my main line, and 10lb Izorline platinum as my leader: rigged for drift-fishing. It's as strong as what the pound rating is for the line, if not a tad stronger. Hope this helps ya and your daughter.

Re: Need advice ........ spinning reel line ( Tuff or Mono)
Thanks to Outlaw, Fishhead, and Fuzzy for replys. Mono it is ! Now which one, think I'll try Izorline. Where can I find this line? My daughter needs all the help she can get, she didn't take up an interest in fishing until she was 20 years old. I always tried to get her to fish when she was younger. I'm real glad she has finally shown a desire to fish, so I'm doing all I can to help her out.
