Default National Marine Fisheries Survey Hoax???

Got a phone call for the 3rd night in a row to take a survey from the Nationl Marine Fisheries Board. After asking a few questions the survey seemed very suspicious. The surveyer said "Alot of fisherman think they don't get enough of the resource ,while they are out there all the time. They think they don't catch a lot of fish, not realizing the devestating impact they are having on the resource....You saltwater fisherman act like the ocean is an infinit resource." Wow, didn't sound very professional to me, let alone a scientific collection of data. Sounded more like a PETA member that has been monitoring our BB, and then trying to put together some spurious statistics. I declined the survey...she was angry. BEWARE!!!

If she calls back, get her name so you can check things out. Sounds pretty fishy to me too. Did you ask her anything to prompt that tirade, or was it just natural attitude?

I asked, how would I know if this was a legitimate survey and what its purpose was. She assured me that it was legitimate and she was part of the part of the NMFB. When I told her I thought it strange for a federal employee to be calling at 7 and 8 at night, she then said she wasn't actually a employee of the NMFB, but part of a group that was going to get data for them. She had a nasty attitude. I would be more than happy to help with useful fish data collection, but it sounded very odd. Might be a new "hug da fishy" faction of PETA...they just don't realize that we already love and help da fishys.

Just re-read your first post. I'm not sure there is such a thing as the National Marine Fisheries BOARD. There's a National Marine Fisheries SERVICE, they are the federal agency. Someone calling themselves the NMFB could be anyone. Would be interesting to find out who they REALLY are. Probably some special interest group hoping to confuse us with the similarity. I'm going to check this out. This kind of stuff lights me up pretty quick.

She calls back or someone else does from that dictatorship, then tell her she caught you in the middle of a good ***** and get a callback number so you can call her back. If it's legit, then so be it, but if it's not, you can turn the number in for harassment or call-block the number. Invite her here, I will take special care of her, oh yes I will...muh ha ha ha ha ha ha

I had a similar experience prior to the election with a hoax survey. This one was about the body gripping traps ballot measure that was on the last state ballot. It was pretty clear as it went on that this survey was designed to sway me to vote against it and I hung up in mid call after I realized that it was simply a political call trying to sway me. The phone rang three times after I hung up. They were persistent.
It might not be a PETA type organization. It might even be from a group like commercial fishermen or some other group that sees sport anglers as their enemy. (although I don't know that gillnetters see sport anglers as an enemy.)

One trick you can do is after they call perform a *69 on your phone, (unless they block this in which case you would have to ask for their phone number, go to http://www.numberfinder.com/ and do a reverse lookup. It will give you the name of the person who did the call and possibly their address.
