Sunday Tuna Trip on Just Keep Fishing
Well folks we didn't break the boat record for tuna but we managed to break another dubious record none the less. Yes we can count . After taking some good natured ribbing from Captain Dave (and a few more jabs at the take out) we found upon unloading the days catch that yes indeed we did have 30 fish! A couple of real pigs with several in the 30lb class.
It was a great day on the killing grounds with great company, great water, and plenty of fish Didn't seem to matter too much what we threw out there, most everything got bit and I'll leave any particulars (gps coordinates/lures) to the Captian to report (if he so chooses :grin .
Big thank you to Tracker for the seat . Also want to thank my new fishing buddies for a truely great day - Kentucky Hog Hunter, TrinhTD, and LQQHASTAR. What a crew; not a single lost fish for the whole day . It was a a blast to share stories, good natured ribbing, and share the big blue experience with all of you .
Hope we can all do it again
Jeff - Set_The_Hook

Re: Sunday Tuna Trip on Just Keep Fishing
At last a crew that can count! I had lost faith in ever finding one that could. The problem was that even though 30 was the number they had come up with, the crew then at the dock deceided that no it was 27 or 28 or something like that. In the end though 30 was the number. We had stayed for an extra hour trying to break the boat record but just could not get two more fish. They just shut down.
"Lost And Found"
For those of you wondering around the big blue in the next few days, keep an eye out for the cowling to an 8 horse kicker! Seems mine fell off somewhere from the hole at depoe to about 30 miles out.
Found the fish in several different places west and north of the 61 spot. We got our first fish south of the 61. Ended the day 12 miles north of the 61.
On the DSC front, 5Salt and I were able to really test this thing out while fishing Sunday. No numbers had to be given out or number written down. Just a push of a button and the positon would show up on the plotter. Thanks to 5Salt for bringing us in on our last three fish of the day and sorry our hot bite fizzeled as you showed up.
It never seases to amaze me about the great people you meet giving out open seats. A great crew going together with a great day! I also wanted to thank the City cop that pulled me over in small town USA at about 3am. Man he sure woke me up. Not sure what he pulled me over for but he did find one of my brake light was out. No ticket and he commented on what a nice boat I had there. Up to that opoint I had really been having a tough time staying awake. Made it clear home after that with very few head bobs!

You found a crew that can count
I didnt think it existed some sort of urban myth
We can in Saturday saying we had about 40 on the radio and hoping we were not overstating only to find 8 more in the bottom of the coolers
I need to get a mechanical counter or something out there, it seems impossible to keep track of them.

Re: Sunday Tuna Trip on Just Keep Fishing
Was thinking about getting one of those clicker counters myself. Likely though I would mess it up and then I could not blame the crew for the count!

Re: Sunday Tuna Trip on Just Keep Fishing
Thankfully, Team Crit'r Git'r lost count! We had about 13 or 14, and then all hell broke loose on the way in. I think we ended up with 21 fish, after some pondering. What a day! I am whooped. -D

Re: Sunday Tuna Trip on Just Keep Fishing
this was a great crew to have aboard!!.
and captain dave knows how to dodge a bullet!, he hooked a shark on a diverbait, then i gaffed it. then he lays his pole down and says deal with this shark, i got a radio call,(what he claims anyway). then he comes back and ask's how big were his teeth. i tell him i dont know, he never showed them...thats why you got your lure back . 1 hook was in his lip and the other in his cheek....now that i think of it, i held the gaff as i removed the hooks. where was the rest of the crew? .
we saw some whales from a distance, and had about20-50 dolphins jumping all around the boat and riding our bow, it was a spectular sight(video to come). it was mostly scratch fishing for us, but we did manage a quad with all four landed.
all in all, a great day shared with new people.
Jack

Re: Sunday Tuna Trip on Just Keep Fishing
Hey the radio really did call! No lost fish at the boat this day! Good, no, excellent team work. Thinking though I should have kept to my plan and headed further west but 30 tuna in a day is good in my book!

Re: Sunday Tuna Trip on Just Keep Fishing
Way to go "Just Keep Fishing" Crew. Had to sit this weekend out. Will be headed for BC this weekend for some salmon action before returning to concentrate on the Tuners....
