What channel @ the 61 spot?

Myself and a few other Tuna Newbies are planning on heading out Sunday. Just curious if you guys run on 78 or what? If all goes as planned we will cross the bar at Newport at daylight on Sunday morning. Would be nice to listen in on the Veterans!

That was what I thought, just thought I had heard someone talking about 80 & 16????

Channel 80 is the Depoe channel. By that I mean most of the boats going in and out announce their intentions on channel 80. It keeps us from running into each other in the slot where there's no room to maneuver.

Don't think, however, that anyone is directing traffic. There is no one to tell you you're "cleared" for departure. It's just a safety and courtesy thing. Remember a 5-sec blast on your horn as well, like you're supposed to do on any "blind" waterway.

As for 16, we all try to monitor that as the emergency channel. It was Apparent Genius who, because he was monitoring channel 16, was able to help the Coasties pinpoint the mayday call from a few days ago.
