Default Coming Back to Duck Hunting

Okay, it has been years since I've duck hunted. It rated a close 2nd to anything I hunted (Archery Elk #1 during the rut) and I had to give it up as "life" happened around me.

Well, life is letting me play again. I'd like to know some places that I might hunt that are close to the Metro area or if there are reasonable leases around that a responsible hunter can get into...pm's are great. I'm not asking you all to give up your super secret spots - just hints maybe ha ha.

I've done Sauvies public areas, Scappoose Bay, Rainier/Goble areas when younger. I live in Tualatin now. I don't have a dog yet but have a canoe and a boat (neither camo'ed but able to get me places.) Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure if you make it out to one of the DA meetings, you will find all the info you need and then some. And probably get an invite or two as well. A lot of really good guys and gals out there.

I'm still bummed I missed the last one, but I had the chance for overtime and need a few new toys before the season starts.

cityfisher,
Oh you so missed the opprotunity to attend a gathering of crazed waterfoulers this last tuesday night.
CHEERS to the DA Meeting
But the good news is......WE"LL HAVE ANOTHER IN AUGUST!

Watch for the threads titled "Calling all DUCKERS!.......DA MEETING!!"
We're just a bunch of great guys & gals that love to waterfowl hunt and help each other out. You do realize that waterfowl hunting is a disease right? And we are a very sick bunch.
Welcome aboard!

Jay,

Looks like you came to the right place!

Like others mentioned, watch for a DA meeting announcement, then try to make it. We'll do a lap around the room introducing everyone (real name, ifish name) and when we get to you, just stand up and say, "I'm the dude that is coming back to duck hunting and I need some pointers". After we're done, watch the other duckers flock to you in an effort to spread the virus.

As far as pointers go, I'd suggest sauvies for public hunting. As far as leases or clubs go, craig's list can be a good place, as well as the ads in the paper. I see ads every once in a while in there.

I would recommend getting a copy of this book to refresh your memory of public areas, even though it is a little dated and some info is no longer applicable:

Game Bird Hunting in Oregon

Hope that helps some. Hope to see you at the next DA meeting.

Geoff
