Default Crab Ring/Pot Repair?

I have several crab rings that are in need of some TLC. The tarred nylon is fraying and will be coming off of the rubber wrapped rings in the very near future.

These are heavy-duty rings, and I haven't seen many of this quality sold anywhere, so I'd like to hang on to them.

Anyone know of a place (preferrably in the Portland area) that can replace/repair the netting?

It's not that hard to fix them yourself. Just strip it down to the frame, redo the rubber if needed and sit down to watch TV with a trap in front of you. A link to instructions is HERE. Practice making the netting in a straight row first. I used a Formica sample from the store as a gauge stick. The first one will be a bit challenging as you learn to fit the netting on as you weave. If you know somebody that knits or does macramé they could help you learn. After the first one you'll be an expert! And I live in the Portland area so the knowledge knows no bounds.

treebutcher,

Not quite sure what to make of your post. Thanks . . . I guess.

STGRule,

Thanks for the link. I read these directions a few weeks ago, but I haven't tried doing it myself yet. Are you using a netting needle to do this?

Yes. It takes a bit of practice, but it isn't hard. I watched a class of fumble-fingered teenage boys learn to do it, so I'm sure you can too. Englund's has all the stuff you need and you can order it over the phone and get it the next day. I'm sure you can order the stuff from other places over the internet too. The tricky part is learning to reduce the rows. You can either work around the ring row by row or work across the ring by increasing the loops every row until you get halfway down and then reducing each row till you've covered it. That's the way I do it. And you can re-do them in wire also. BOE has an excellent tutorial in the tech section. CLICK HERE.
