Re: Timber cutter at work
Did you get the girth and lenght measurement so we can get an idea of the weight? Looks like it'll make for some pretty tough chewing. How long did it take you to land it? Wish you could have released it, looks like a native.....

Re: Timber cutter at work
Great picture. That's all I want for Christmas!!! Just think, all that beautiful wood, now preserved forever. Can you imagine the CVG doors, flooring, T&G panelling, high quality beams. All to be enjoyed forever... That's a beautiful thing.
Thanks Timberman

Just think, if he would have released the big ones in picture one, he might be holding two or three big ones in picture two

Re: Timber cutter at work
Since when did you go back to spring boards? And ancient chainsaws, the lumber in the stump alone would build a 1500 sq.ft. home...My father built most of the roads in Bull Run during the 60's and early 70's That tree was only average by those standards..somewhere I have a picture of a Doug Fir that was 9' 60' up from the ground, if ykou have ever been to the Wind River Nursery they had a section of log from the 100' top that was still 7' thru...The only mill that was able to handle trees that big was Stevenson....peelers for plywood. Ever wonder why 3/4" plywood A/A, A/B, or A/C costs so much...? New Tech....melt down milk jugs and make plastic paneling, melt down junkyards and make steel 2" x 4"s...Heat with compost piles lined with black plastic pipe....use solar panels for electricity. Burn junk mail for heat. Catch and kill fish for food, Deer and Elk are fine eating.Raise your own garden...Sell excess or barter...Have a Merry Christmas

Re: Timber cutter at work
Timberman-
Nice "stick". I fell timber for 4 years before going back to college and getting my degree in electronics. I still have a bit of a warming feeling when I see something like this or pass a log truck. Been there...done that. Hat's off to you, guy, as I know what you feel like when you get home (and still have chains to sharpen!).

Re: Timber cutter at work
My apologies TM haven't seen a stand like the one your working in years, I wouldn't assume to tell you how to do your job..the largest that I ever fell was 5' dbh and sh_t little bricks all through the process, the picture was a little fuzzy the saw looked like an old 50's Homelite, I would be the first to say that I have respect for your profession....I've been FS for 25+ years...Firefighter, Silvaculture,Recreation, and Forestry Instructor....with that I will give you this wish..."May you never have a bad day at work...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Am I missing something here? When kids do this we call it getting "negative attention."

Re: Timber cutter at work
sorry steve but the saw isnt ancient. And the tree was 9'dbh(for those of you that dont know that is diameter at breast height)May be you could come show me how to fall one that is full of stump rot!!It was cored and and that was the safest was to high stump it.It would have been long butted and left anyways.

Thanks guys! Steve it was a pic from a few years back that I took a picture of with my new digital camera.First fish picture with it and it turned out pretty good for being dark outside. Now I can take as many pictures as it takes to get one that looks good and go back and edit the rest out.Wished I would have bought one of these digital cameras before now!!!!TM
