I will be attempting a Swordfish trip this September.
Because of the ranch, and uncertain situations last year, I had to cancel a planned trip.
I plan on the same crew as would have gone last year: Rod (Corrirod), Dean (AquaHolic), Jim (Skein), and Bill Monroe.
Edit: I guess Bill won't be able to attend this one due to prior commitments. Dang!!!!!
The trip will be 3 days, consisting of working our way south at about 60 miles offshore. We will probably end at Crescent City, but that will be determined spur of the moment.
Anyone interested in winging this expedition is welcome, however, there are a few things to consider:
I will be drifting (hopefully) if the weather permits, on parachute through the night. If you don’t have a sea anchor, you will drift much faster. Not a big deal, but you will end up a long way from us by morning.
Have you ever spent time on the ocean at night?
Is your boat capable of a trip like this?
How much range do you have?
The bait is fairly expensive. You can order it from Bait Masters in Florida.
Is your boat capable of landing a Swordfish? ie: gaffs, transom door, etc.
I believe John (Myrtle Bee) is considering this trip, and who knows, maybe we’ll be part way to Mexico for the trip he has planned for this Fall. I just might wing him?
