Default Steelie bobber poles

In the last year or so I've found myself fishing bobber/bait and bobber/worms frequently for steelies, and would like to pick up a pole better suited for this technique. I've been using my 8.5' drifter, and that just doesn't cut it length-wise. I am thinking about some of the rods in the lami certified pro series, 10 - 10.5' range. Anyone have any recommendations/reviews/tips? How about some of you up north who may use this technique a little more frequently? What would you recommend for a steelie bobber pole, Centerpin and meyersbilly? This would be for a baitcaster.

If this info has been posted elsewhere and I missed it, just point me in the right direction!

Thanks, Kwiky

I think the 10'+ Lamis are plenty good for bobber fishing. You don't need to spend big bucks on rods intended for float fishing because you see the take to set the hook. Another thing the extra long rods will help with is fishing plugs from the bank or shallow wade positions better, by getting the tip out over holding current. - RT

To properly float fish go with a 10.5ft or better. A good choice is the Loomis 1263 and 1363, these blanks allow you to handle the average size steely and fish moderately big water. A big problem we have in these parts is people using too light of a blank and not being able to put the hooks into the fish, poor line control and being overpowered. The Lamiglas are good sensitive rods but seem to be limited to small to midsized flows.

i use a lami bill herzog 10'6" 6 to 10lb. i float fish 90% of the time. this rod has been working great for me and is a nice drift rod also. my leaders are 2 to 8lb. so i need the lighter action. the hardest part of use a baitcaster with light leader is kept your thumb off the spool, let the drag do the work. also i use fine wire hooks and the bobber will set the hook most of the time. baitcasters rock for float fishing.
