Floyd Landis
Kinda surprised no one here has mentioned the guts this guy has and that he won the Tour de France. I watched many of the races on OLN since the first day and have to say it was pretty darn good drama with thrills and spills around each corner. The conditioning these guys go through and the incredible tenacity they have to compete just blows me away.
Had really worried about Landis after he just ran out of gas during stage 16 17 (?) as to weather he would even be on the podeum but his comeback was spectacular in more than just one way. He blew the competition away with his overall performance
I cannot imagine speeds of 55 mph on a bike nor climbing the french alps in 100 degree heat. My hat is off to all the riders that finished the tour even up to the last place man. Truely incredible feat of drive and endurance that most of us will never understand.
Congrats Floyd!

Re: Floyd Landis
C&E...
I watched a lot of the tour on OLN too over the past couple of weeks, except for the last four days when I was watching the British Open instead. Such a treat to have these world class sporting events on the tube when one arises in the early morning. I was torn.
Guess I figured when Lance retired we in "no way" would have an American take the yellow jersey in the end. It makes sense though. Landis had been right there for several years watching how Armstrong won the thing and I'm sure he picked up a few pointers and strategies from "the best" in that race.
 .....to Floyd Landis

Re: Floyd Landis
I sure hope his surgery goes well and he is able to compete at this level for a years to come.
He sure was the bright spot for american cyclists as most of the other american failed to live up to the pre race hype.

Re: Floyd Landis
That ride in stage 17 was one for the ages. After 16 I thought it was over and then he went out and tore it up. Congratulations to Floyd and another Tour de France for,
the U.S.A.

I think it's been awhile since a nation has had consecutive winners, like Armstrong and Landis?
Landis's amazing comeback should win more respect for American racers!

I didn't post about it before now, but I watched it daily and was really impressed. Hopefully, his hip surgery goes well.

The guy is simply a class act and not a blowhard. Hopefully he will have more respect for his wife than his mentor.

Re: Floyd Landis
It was amazing to watch Landis come back in the Alps. He is going to be quite a force for the next couple of years. His contract is up with Phonak and Discovery would love to get him back! Armstrong has said they are going to try and sign him. That would be awesome!

Re: Floyd Landis
There is just no way that anyone could do what Floyd did with a presurgical arthritic hip without "help". He likely had large doses of corticosteroids(which are related to testosterone and could conceivably convert in a drug test) injected into his hip. However, if he was cheating, shame on him.

Re: Floyd Landis
lots of riders dropped out just before the tour started in doping related issues. how can anyone think they can get away with cheating? the french are all over this since lance buddy put the hurt on them. it was nice to see landis win but if he cheated......give him the ben johnson treatment..

Sheesh...I don't think I've ever responded to my own past post here at ifish before and used my own quoted words.
Maybe Landis did learn some things from Armstrong on how to win in France via the doping method. I sure hope it isn't so...as I have always hoped that Lance was true in his words when he says he never cheated to be the multi time winner of this race.
A sport that is deep in speculation and controversy of using ways to cheat to be better and win. It's too bad. Reminds me of that ol' Saturday Night Live skit of the "All Drugs Olympics" where the weight lifter tries to lift a billion pounds, only to rip his arms off at the shoulders in the process.
What have sports come to. Kinda sounds like fishing in some ways.

Re: Floyd Landis
They all cheat, some just don't get caught! Bummer if Floyd injected a little sauce, but don't jump on him yet. As said in another post, could be related to something for his hip.

Re: Floyd Landis
If you all remember, Armstrong was accused over and over and nothing was ever proven. There are various reasons for Armstrong winning, and they aren't all about doping/drugs.
Also, according to what I've read, there could be reasons for a false positive. Let's wait until the final verdict is in...then, string him up if he deserves it.

Re: Floyd Landis
I'm not jumpin on Floyd until all is proven. How many claims were made against Lance even after his last tour and were later disproven? Answer: Several. The organization that operates the testing seems biased to me against American winners. The French surely are ready to make claims - even without proof.
If it is later proven that he took doping agents then he should be stripped of his title in IMHO.

Re: Floyd Landis
Think I'll wait until the verdict is in on the second test. "Judge ye not lest ye be judged." Should be an interesting read on what cause the levels to spike like they did. Often wonder if the tests themselves ever get doped.

Re: Floyd Landis
Remember that while we are used to the British Common Law principle that one is innocent until proven guilty. That isn't the way courts work in most countries. Also, while the RATIO of testosterone to epitestosterone was abnormal, it could mean his testosterone was normal, but the epi was low. Also, there is a second sample that has to be tested before they lodge a formal charge against him. It's an ugly situation, but I think I'll support him until the charges are proven.

Re: Floyd Landis
After seeing this guy on Larry King, I really don't belive that he did anything wrong. All of his tests before and after this sample were clean, and the docs that have been commenting have stated that a single dose isn't going to really get you anywhere.
