wasn't bad - went out about 7am after max ebb. fishing was slow but managed to keep 3 & released several. Ocean was a little sloppy in am but settled down and of course, sunny and warm. I can't complain.

SeaJay,

I've been watching the CR Weather Buoy, which
reported 5-7 ft seas on 22/23 July. That buoy
is farther west, of course. So, what seas did
you see, and where were you, approximately? Or,
more to the point, how do you incorporate the
weather buoy data into your trip planning?

I was out sun AM in a 23' Striper and it was not too bad.

Even though I went out kind of close to low tide, the bar was not too bad.

The ocean was rolling a little bit, but nothing that caused any concern, but I was off the water pretty early.

I was there Sunday, listened to the CR report and went back to bed. Glad you did not think it was to bad, heard it was not to good of water. Guess it depends on what you are used to. Anything over 8 combined is getting iffy, anything over 10 combined is cancellation time for this guy.

Talked with a couple of people and some fish were taken, charters had lotsa green customers but some had limits. I understand it was a CR start and than roll down the hill.

Good luck out there!

I didn't think it was bad at all! Of course, that's just me..

We did pretty well. 3 kings, 3 silvers for 3 of us. The kings were 30#, 20#, 10#. Silvers were nice - no fins at all.

300' of water due west of the CR.

Ouch.

While I still want to value safety
over courage, these reports bring
tears to my eyes.

I should have/would have...

Any chance someone might post a CR-
centric analysis of conditions near
the CR buoy?

How does one know?

Thanks in advance,

David King

It sure seems like the report is accurate but for 20 to 60 miles offshore and not close in to the coast. I think Nalu went out and said the wind started to rage 15 to 20 miles out but then closer in it was mild? I've never seen the north wind not blow close to shore until this year, but on Saturday it was glassy all afternoon at the beach and no sheep grazing in sight! Wierd with the forecast and sure not typical.
