Default Prayer for my Grandma (UPDATED 8/31/06)

We just got back today from a 3 day camping trip. I had a message on my cell from my mother, saying that my grandma (dad's mom) was admitted Thursday with congestive heart failure :depressed: This is the last grandparent I have left. My mother's parents both died before I was born, and dad's father died when I was only 4. We've slowly watched her go downhill the last couple years, and it's hard to take sometimes. They say when/if she's released from the hospital this time, that she will either have to go to a nursing home or go to live with one of the kids, seeing as she's extremely weak :depressed: I honestly believe that it will kill her emotionally (if not literally) to move away from her home that she's lived in for so many years. My grandpa and their kids built that home from the ground up back in the 50's and that's her last real attachment (besides the memories) that she has to my grandpa.

Please pray that God's will be done in this situation, and that if it is her time, that she will go quickly and without suffering

Love you Grandma

You should call and talk to a social worker at a local area hospital, these social workers are often a good resource for providing answers about in home health care and for providing information about the better quality of nursing homes that may be present in your area. I know that Interim Healthcare of Salem Oregon provides in home health care services. I am sure that other companies provide in home health care services for a fee. Also there is a program that is called meals on wheels that helps to provide cooked meals for people at home that are elderly. Additionally, should your grandparent stay at home, there is adaptive equipment that can be purchased to aid in setting up your grandparent's home. I have worked in nursing homes, as a live in health care giver, currently at a hospital the last five years, and as an agency healthcare provider. If you need further advice please contact me via Creatistic3@yahoo.com

Aaron, I am praying for your Grandma and for your family. Like many here, I too, have experienced the loss of my Grandma. She had to move out of her house because of failing health. Fortunalely, she moved into an enviroment where there were people she knew and it gave her the independence she needed. I will pray that God will see that your Grandma's needs are met and she recognizes that. And when her time to move on comes it will be peaceful .

Jokester:

Will pray that the Lord's arms will embrace your grandma and give her peace at this difficult time.

We have a wonderful retirement center affiliated with our church. Not knowing your plans for her or other specifics, if a retirement home is your family's choice this is a good one. Here's their site:

Thanks for the prayers so far guys. I should have mentioned that my family is mostly from Southern Indiana & Southern Illinois. Grandma lives in Mt. Vernon, IN...a town about 25 miles from Evansville, IN.

I talked to my mom and dad last night, and Grandma is doing a bit better...still very weak, but resting at least. All 12 kids have talked it over with one another and have decided the best thing to do is to let her live in a nursing home when she's released. I don't think it will be as bad as what I originally thought it would be though. Haven't talked to her about it yet, but she has quite a few friends in the nursing home that she's going to, that she's known for many, many years. So maybe it will be better than what I expected for her to get acclimated.

Just keep praying that God's will be done and that all ends well. Thank you all!!

Right Angle has some good info. I worked in assisted living for a few years in college. If she goes to the nursing home, make sure she's visited frequently. Loneliness can happen. It's a major life change. If she already has friends there, as you mentioned, that is a good thing. Praying for her.

Well, I got a call from my mom this morning right as I got up, and she said that Grandma's not doing so good again. She is out of the hospital and has been in the nursing home now for 2 weeks. Doctor said her organs are good, but her heart is tired :depressed: He didn't give a very good outlook...said she could leave us any day. She's not eating as much now as she used to, and says it's very hard for her to breathe.

If you all would keep praying for her, i'd appreciate it very much! Thank you again

Well, I just got the call...the good Lord saw fit to take another one of his angels home She will be sadly missed by all

My grandmother, Laura Wells, passed away this morning around 10:00AM our time (12:00PM CST) :depressed: She's now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus with no more pain!! I'm making plans to join my family in Illinois tonight or tomorrow. Please continue praying for all of us during this most difficult time. Thank you all for your continued support!

Just wanted to thank everyone once again for praying for my family and I It's times like these, when we need our brothers and sisters in Christ, and by simply praying for us, you all helped us out tremendously!! We flew back to IL on Friday, September 1st, and we leave to come back to the PNW this Thursday afternoon.

We buried my grandma this morning. She may be gone for now, but I know one day that i'll see her again

Jokester,

This is a poem I wrote when my grandma passed away 5 years ago. Praying for you and your family.

~Melissa

A Legacy

Grandma loved grandpa
"Til death us do part"
They both loved Jesus
And gave Him their hearts.

They had five children,
My mother was one,
Who they raised in the truth
And led to the Son.

She said her family
Was her mission field;
The fruit of their lives
Show her prayers were fulfilled.

Grandma had a bad stroke
Early this spring;
We gathered around her
To kiss her and sing.

She knew where she was going,
Though she had never been-
To rest in God's presence
And see Grandpa again.
