Food for thought
Under normal circumstances I would have thought this to be off topic. But considering the hot threads appearing here lately I believe it's appropriate. Jenny and RT, Keep Up The Great Work. Thanks!
Here's some food for thought...
In 1555, Nostradamus wrote:
"Come the millennium, month 12,
In the home of greatest power,
The village idiot will come forth
To be acclaimed the leader."

Re: Food for thought
The only thing good old Nostradamus left out was that the supreme court would be the ones to make the decision. If they had counted those votes ... but alas, who can evade the fate of Nostradamus? In past rulings of this court, the "conservative" justices (Scalia, Thomas, etc) have consistently sided with "states rights" and most often won't even hear cases that can and have been decided on the state level. This is the way of Republicans as a whole - give states the power of self-governance and self-determination - and that's what they stand for and no judgement on that as a philosophy. But suddenly and with unprecendented swiftness this same court decided to strip Florida of its states rights (rather than not hear the case at all, or shoot it down, which is what they usually do). That this so-called decision totally went against the grain of the conservative court's previous actions is perhaps the greatest evidence of its political underpinnings - or are they mere puppets of the word of Nostradamus?

Re: Food for thought
Hey, who are these Scalia and Thomas characters? I thought it was referring to my new manager at work who doesn't understand the concept of regaining your sanity and motivation by taking a sick day to go fishing once in a while.
Speaking of which, sorry I misspelled your name Jennie! I posted that from work and was in a hurry. Didn't want that new manager to catch me.

Re: Food for thought
Either way OLC (can we call you Olie?), that ol' Nosty was quite the prophet. It's the 12th month of the millenia and GeeDub is in the house and we just got a new idiot Ifisher from 'Bama that mispelled his own moniker, but seems to have D.C. caliber talents for a leadership role on Ifish. ... And dang it Spot, your topic heading here has me thinking about food again

Re: Food for thought
Dictionary: "acclaimed" = met with loud approval. Don't think GW or Bore met that criteria, but wouldn't the one that won the popular vote be closest to fitting this definition. Just a thought.
And remember, as Billary said "It takes a village to raise an idiot"

Re: Food for thought
Hey guys,
The millennium starts in 2001 right?
We did start counting year 0 did we? Started counting year 1 I think.
So we wait patiently for 12 more months to see who the true village idiot is that will fulfill the prophecy.
Keep in mind the 20 year presidential curse, all presidents elected in a year ending in zero have either died or been assassinated while in office, except for Reagan who was a lot closer to death after the assassination attempt that our blessed media let on at the time.
Keep your eyes open in 2001.

Re: Food for thought
Y'know, the election is over. It's a done deal.
It's time for us to come together as a people and stop the divisive political rhetoric.
As a matter of fact, although a Democrat myself, I'll propose a toast to the Republicans:
The election is over,
the voting is done.
My side lost
And your side won.
So let's get together,
Forget the Past.
I'll hug your elephant
And you kiss my ....
Oh, never mind. I don't want to get banned from this board so I'll just be on my way.
Happy holidays to all the ifishers. This is a great group of people.

Re: Food for thought
Excellent toast Sailcat.
I laughed out loud. I do have to admit that Dubya may not be the smartest nail in the apron.
And Nivtip if we counted the end of the first year as 1. How many total years did we have when we hit 100? Using higher math extrapolate that out to 2000.
Did they ever settle that millenium debate? And what calendar Nosy was using.
