Make your own AC
I came across this link while surfing the net today, thought some of you would be entertained by this.
Make your own AC
And here is an Upgrade to the above mentioned Home made AC:
Home made AC upgrade
Anyone got some extra time on their hands while staying indoors for the next few days?

Re: Make your own AC
Please note..
This is not an appropriate system for removing Waste sediment and effluent from a dorm room.
Just to clear everything up along those lines.

I sent the links to my Dad. If he does build one (and knowing him, he probably will), I'll see if I can get pics.

Re: Make your own AC
I'm half tempted to try it.
It reminds me of an old buddy of mine who made a water heater out of a cone shaped metal fire place, Copper tubing, and a water pump. It actually worked really well. He had a primitive cabin that he lived in for about a year.

Re: Make your own AC
Buddy of mine runs a home made AC unit himself...works suprisingly well!
It is a car radiator that he put hose adapters on the top and bottom of...runs cold irrigation water through the radiator and has a big fan in front of it to pull the air through.
Works surprisingly well, and drops the temp in the room by 15-20 degrees..
Wouldnt do well at my house, as the water bill would be outragous, but he is on a well and has irrigation running through as well..

Re: Make your own AC
Even easier would be to put a fan behind a block of ice and sit in front of it. Watch out for the puddle!

Re: Make your own AC
Just keep the water flowing, both ends of rubber tubing intake/output, into the same water container. Hook up tubes through the side of a fridge (cut, caulk, seal)
Moving to mexico tmr, might have to try this.
Thanks!

Re: Make your own AC
If you're cutting into a fridge for whatever reason (kegerator, DIY A/C, etc.) be very careful. The freon lines run all over the place on the main shell. One wrong move and you've turned it into a nice DIY high-capacity smoker. Cut through the door if you can.

Re: Make your own AC
why not use the fan and block of ice and drain the ice into a bucket and use the homemade airconditioner with the copper tubbing. Double cooling out of the same block of ice.

Re: Make your own AC
We've got HUGE swamp coolers in the weld shop at work. Those things are nice. Don't use a lot of water but they drop the temp pretty nice.

Re: Make your own AC
Just circulate the cold water through your sivvies. I think I might have my boy make one up. He had the idea of solar powered airconditioning, and I pointed out the thermodynamics and hardware requirement to pull that off and he got turned off.
