Hunting Video Music
Well, I've made several hunting videos, but I have to admit...I'm not much of a music guy. What I am looking for are some good songs to use as background music for videos.
good songs IMHO will
1. have no lyrics OR have lyrics that don't overtake the song...I don't really want the words to be the main focus
2. get the listener/watcher excited
3. be recognizable or if not...catchy
4. have a good long intro w/o words...sometimes I just use this part
5. Start kind of slow....then jump in with some hard sound
Please help me out....I have already used
-AC/DC stuff
-bush...breathe in breathe out
-some metallica
help...I don't know music
thanks
Jon

Re: Hunting Video Music
Try out some Iron Maiden. Aces High, Run to the hills, all good songs. I guess it depends alot on what type of hunting your doing.

Re: Hunting Video Music
When I made a hunting video of my Dall Sheep hunt I used some good ol' Hank Williams Jr "A Country Boy Can Survive."

Lots of lyrics and probably not PC, but:
Another One Bites the Dust - Queen
Boom Boom Out Go The Lights - Pat Travers
The Boys are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy

Re: Hunting Video Music
Maybe it's just me, and I'll also admit that I'm not a big music guy. I don't care much for music on hunting videos. It always seems like they are trying to get you excited by playing some AC/DC in the background.
Now, I like AC/DC, don't get me wrong, but I generally don't need anything to get me excited when that big bull is coming in screaming, and the guy is stuck at full draw waiting for it to come out from behind the brush. I'd rather listen to the bull screaming, and watch the guy shake .
On the other hand, there are times when it's appropriate. Lots of waterfowl videos have just wave after wave of ducks/geese coming in and sometimes getting hammered. Someone posted a video here at the end of the season that was great, but I can't find it.
FWIW, I also get annoyed with "suspense" music in Hollywood movies, so maybe it's just me.

Re: Hunting Video Music
Jon,
I listen to a lot of music that you never hear on the radio.
Lots of music.
Lots of music with no lyrics.
Lots of music with quiet intros then hard hits.
Stuff like; Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Paul Oakenfold, Lemon Jelly, DJ Tiesto, Underworld, Armin Van Burren, ATB, Crystal Method, etc... (see, it's not your mainstream stuff).
Lots of this type of music you've all heard as "filler" music in movies, TV shows, even the evening news (happened only once).
Sometime you can come over and see if this strikes you as usable.
And don't worry, my friends all kid me about my music selections, so I've got thick skin about it.
Geoff

Re: Hunting Video Music
Go do a google search for music bakery~~find music bakery~~click on their site~~go to music download~~list type at Erie or African~listen to music free there in many category. Listening to different types and category will give you a better idea as to what you are trying to achieve during your video production.
You are looking for wild drums erie type African music.
Here is an example of great music to give action and excitement during a salmon attack.

Re: Hunting Video Music
Find something you like and re-edit. There is one on huntingfootage.com called "--------- march" There is a picture of a dog with a goose in his mouth. It is about the best I have heard for a short home made clip. Whatever you do, or at lease whatever I would do, is make it original. Just my .02. Can't wait to see the footage.

Re: Hunting Video Music
I'm not to big on the rock music in the videos. Don't get me wrong though, if im out on a road trip or something similar then lets rock out, but i prefer just music when watching the videos. Mabey at 33 im just a little old fasioned or just the country comming out in me. I watch the Eastman's show alot and the style of music they use is real nice. Just my 2 cents!!

Re: Hunting Video Music
Tunderstruck from ACDC would be sick... not to loud just some background stuff during the fast action kill shots.

Re: Hunting Video Music
Thanks guys...
Some great points made here. I'm not totally into the rock thing either....but
I made a video of a rock dove hunt that has kill shots...about 4 minutes of only kill shots. This video deserves nothing but ROCK!!! I have it running loud, but shotguns blasts can still be heard!!!
I made another video that contains two sheep hunts, a mufalon and a corsican killed with bow and arrow. These were not sport hunts...but meat hunts. I took no part in the hunt other than the videographer....these hunts were not for wild animals...but really needed to be on tape....AC/DC was the ticket...and it worked great.
As for the waterfowl hunts...there are times when some fast paced music blended with the intense calling of geese works out good, but on other hunts I keep it pretty natural.
I look forward to filming many more hunts, and making many more videos...no doubt many of your ideas will be seriously looked at, given the right situation!!
Thanks a bunch
Jon

Re: Hunting Video Music
Hmm,, I got tot thinkin about this.
I f i wanted to make a video, that was universally appealing to the hunters of the world...
I'd Just go for realism
As much as I love C.C.R.
and AC/DC ,
Lots of folks HATE it.
So i'd say that the sound of the wings, the water lapping the shore, them guns, and the praises of the good duckdog should be heard loud and clear.
For me (and I may be suffering from delirium here, God only knows I have done so on a half dozen occasions)
I remember bits and pieces in my mind of a past hunt.
My brain recalls little sound bites, things like the sound of the anchor hitting the water, the sound of the dog whining. the faintest whistles of birds overhead at dawn.
It is 50% of the deal for me...
I think that a blindman could fall in love with the sport if given a chance...
It is about the sounds (least for me)... nearly as much as the sights.
A blind guy might really enjoy it..
Lots of water, sound.. .dogs. the warmth of a fresh bird, the smell of a wet dog... the sound of the waves on the side of the boat..
Of course there will be lots of sloppy slobbery wet kissed from a duckhound... that is imperative
And the smell of BLACK COFFEE, here i go again... Damn... i Am so hooked.
..
No body else does that (in the video tv world) everyone blazes the music that they may like(granted sometimes it is great, but sometimes it should have the stamp P.O.S. productions on it)
I have many times just shut off the tube because of offensive Auditory assault.
You know what I mean?

Re: Hunting Video Music
Todd,
You may be preaching to the choir here...
It's my firm belief that TV will never capture the essence of our tradition. It involves every sense, not just one or two.
TV has a way of narrowing and shrinking things. Duck hunting is so wide and big. Even in small timber holes, the game is about things bigger than just that hole.
Anyway, I'm excited to see your work Jon. You know I am. I need to see something that will bring October a little closer, and I think you got the prescription for my ills Jon.
Geoff

Re: Hunting Video Music
OK...Music and duck hunting...two colossal favorites....must comment...
I think there's a time and place for the music background, same goes for the au natural. Music works if all you've got are pictures to assemble a slideshow (I did my first of a trip to PotHoles last season - it's gotten decent 'reviews'), or if you're fortunate to have enough footage captured to assemble a pretty cool highlight reel that's more flash and editing. The prime example I can think of is the goose video from Colorado (with the choc lab retriever-MACHINE 'Allie'!).
You wanna get your JONES on, check this Schlitz out: http://imageevent.com/renegade/renegadef...amp;s=0&z=2
Better'n an IV!(RE-CREDIT to Lickskillet for this piece of CRACK!)
I think DukBoy is spot on too about capturing all the auditory elements that are so much a part of what we do and tell much more of the story. (Looking forward to meetin you Tuesday, DB). I wanna get some of this kind of footage this year.
Lastly, perhaps, I would add that videos, slideshows and the like are just another form of art - and are appreciated differently. Seeing it on a screen is well below average, as Geoff implies. Yet, the beauty of it is that we've got enough data and imagination accumulated to be able to fill in the blanks (ie if it's a music-only soundtrack) and to get at least a taste (if not a gorging) of that tingle we get while we're in the blind and there are birds in the air. I dunno, hard to put into words sometimes, but many of us know this feeling. We want it to feel it again... Repeatedly....TODAY...NOW!
What's the countdown, Houston?? T-Minus 83???

funny you should metion Allie!!
I've hunted with Lickskillet on several occassions. I have yet to see a dog that got to birds quicker than Allie. You'd almost think he sped up the footage, the way she gets on it....and then you hunt with her ....that dog is sick!

Re: Hunting Video Music
Knowing what specific species and gender Jon insists on targeting, I'd say perhaps "Sharp Dressed Man" or "The Boys are back in Town". I think GET BIT and Bait Bucket recomended those earlier. Now for the intro to your video, you know the part where everyone piles out of the truck in the dark, speeds off in the boat, sets up the dekes as the sky lightens, watches the birds flying before shooting light ... That is a perfect match to the "Mission Impossible" theme song. From the movie soundtrack, of course. Give it a listen and imagine your hunt unfolding...
Oh Yea!!

I used a lot of music from freeplay.com for my turkey video. Lots of different types of music and sounds. No words, just mood music from fast paced to jazz - whatever.
