Default Bow or not a bow?

On the ODFW fishing regs it says you can take bullfrogs with a bow and arrow. But would a crossbow be considered the same as a bow and arrow?

Illegal, because the bow string is held at full draw by a device. Must be considered somewhere in between a firearm and a bow...And sorry for the poor proofreading of my last post.

Im not to sure it would be illegal for the take of frogs? Id call the ODFW and ask the question. Frogs are a different deal than big game. Also why your at it ask them about jack rabbits, ground squirrls and coyote. you might be able to use them form hunting non game animals

Crossbow's are explicitly illegal in taking game mammals. P.9 3rd question in the Achery section. Game mammals being defined as pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, black bear, cougar, deer, elk, moose, Rocky Mt. goat, and western gray squirrel. P. 10. So that means you can use a crossbow on unprotected mammals. They list common unprotected mammals as coyote, badger, gophers, moles, mountain beaver, marmots, porcupines, skunks, cottontails, black-tailed jackrabbits, rats, mice, opossums, nutria, and weasels. P.11

BTW, crossbows don't shoot arrows, they shoot bolts. There by definition they do not meet the requirment for bull frogs.

It is legal to take bullfrogs. In fact it is SO legal that its illegal to let them go if you catch them. There is on limits on the size and amount you cant keep, time of day, or season. They are an invasive spices. They were introduced in the 1930's as food for the coastal areas but by the 1940's people weren't into them any more. Ever since then they have been taking over and wiping out native frogs and turtles.

Some might find it mean to kill Kermy and all his family and friends but they are very much predators, they eat bats, birds, snakes, rats, fish, crawdads, even each other, ext. If they had a chance (if you were small snuff) they would eat you!

The ODFW (fishing) regs have the regulations of legal methods of "taking" them. Some of them are hand, dip net, Gig, bow and arrow, angling, and others.....I think.

And they sure are tasty

I did not include the p. 9 part as that only pertained to big game. Because it was listed in the regs. as " Bow and Arrow", I went with the description of what archery equipment is. And as it states in the only regulations that talk about archery equipment, Big Game Regs., " no device secured to or supported by a bow may be used to maintain a bow at full draw". Under Bullfrogs on page 13 of the 2006 fishing regs. it lists what methods can be used and they are, "angling, hand, bow and arrow, spear, gig, spear gun and dip net" I do not believe it would be possible to pass the crossbow off as a spear gun. Also note that firearms are not listed as a legal method. So it is probably best to look for a different method of "taking" bullfrogs.
